Quests & Challenges

My goal is to have an entire lair of meat dragons, one of each modern breed and a breeding pair for ancients.
I'll begin with the colors berry/berry/cream in the genes tapir/striation/ghost, with a secondary goal of vermillion/vermillion/cream in tide/foam/ghost.

The challenge is that every single one of them must be unrelated. And so, I must breed my own from a wider color range!

Here I will be chronicling the success of the Meat Makers and how long it took to get there. Per egg, each couple has anywhere from a 10% to 0.2% chance to make a meat, so I'll be here a while.

Nope! One color off primary with a perfect secondary and tertiary, I thought for sure her parents would be meat-adjacent. This time I was right, her mom is meats and dad isn't too far off. (Chargrilled actually had a fling with someone else before meeting Firedawn. All parties involved agreed this was a better match, because there is no higher goal than Meat Baby.) I looked up all the unexalted berry/berry/cream dragons and water had the fewest! No wonder I couldn't find any for sale. Fortunately, I have a friend in water. But I didn't want to bother them too much and ask them to host an unending parade of dragons with terrible meat-making odds. So Chargrilled and Firedawn took a little honeymoon vacation to the ocean in hopes of an elusive water meat dragon. And wouldn't you know, their first nest with three eggs (so overall, an almost 50% chance for at least one to be meat) didn't make one at all! They must have had too much fun there and wanted to return. And so they did, for their second clutch of two eggs, making a little pearlcatcher who takes after grandma. Say hello to BoneBroth! I got him as a kind gift from a friend in the Plague discord because they knew he would help with my meat breeding project. But not even I could have predicted how helpful he would be! Berry/Maroon/Cream [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/91366633][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/rendern/350/913667/91366633_350.png[/img][/url] I really wanted to take advantage of the lucky almost-meats, so I ventured into the dragon search and found Ishara in another plague acquaintance's meat den. I reached out and we hashed out a deal: an almost-meat in exchange for a classic meat from one of my other pairs! Unsurprisingly, Ishara came from a long line of meat-adjacent colors and has one of the smallest parent ranges I have in my meat makers. Just makes it more likely that they are related somewhere down the line. Fortunately she wasn't, so soon she was meeting all the other red dragons and feeling right at home in another meat lair. Both being exactly one off the target meat colors for the secondary, with the primary and tertiary already perfect, this is the closest a pair can get without one being pure meat (which then defeats the purpose of breeding to a notmeat). I doubt I will get another pair this good ever again! So I asked another friend to host the two lovebirds for a thrilling vacation in the purple pines. They were having such a great time, though, that they sort of forgot their primary objective and had a singular, not meat egg. Heading back again a bit later, this time they doubled their effort and had [i]Two[/i] eggs! Which meant this clutch had a 55% chance that at least one was meat. We were very surprised when they hatched twinsies!! With a two egg nest, it was only an 11% chance that they were both the target color (which is still honestly an order of magnitude better than some of my other pair's chance to make just one). Even better, they didn't need any genes at all! Lucanica with pastel eyes stayed (it seemed a bit more fitting for a skydancer), while Meatling is off to see the world and proselytize the teachings of Meat.

In fact, there's so much sanguine in his family tree that none of them strayed over to berry, so he gladly became a meat maker. (BloodMoon's parent range below - teeny tiny!) Although Absolem's parents have a tiny range, her grandparents are a bit farther apart. So even though her colors are relatively close she was happily unrelated. In short order she was welcomed to the ranks of meat makers, made all the better as her tertiary matched BloodMoon's (and the target color of course) exactly! Perhaps breed change to an ancient I don't have yet as most of the genes will need to be changed as well? They didn't really have the best chance of making a meat so I didn't want to throw another factor on top of it to make the gender match as well. But then again, it would be a shame to breed change an Imperial... Having a perfect meat child that was also of the correct gender to pair with him halves the chances yet again, making it only a 1.65% chance to get a perfect imperial pair. Plus they got here on their third clutch of eggs, with 9 offspring total. With enough time, we hope to keep beating the odds yet again! Taking after her mother with Leopard/Hypnotic/Underbelly (as expected), it is time to welcome Mishima into the meat ranks! It's always fun to see parents with wide ranges decked out in gem genes! I'm happy I found her, as her secondary is one off and the tertiary spot on the target colors. (thanks for beating the odds on number of eggs per nest, too). Just like the imperial, I wasn't planning on keeping two bogsneaks.... but when one of the right gender is dropped in your lap like that (AGAIN!), what else am I supposed to do? Say hello to Boudin, born her dad's breed with her mom's genes Cherub/Flair/Firefly, it always weirds me out when Berry has an accent color that's not meat. Time to fix that right away! With such low odds, if we get a meat that's not the right gender it would be too sad to toss it and wait for the pair to make another one, especially when there are still more ancient breeds to collect. With a base chance of 2.8% to make a meat, that means 1.4% chance for a female. But dad Bogsneak is uncommon and mom Pearlcatcher is common, meaning that pairing had overall a 0.35% chance to make SHE! And I just can't breed change her away from her destiny like that. I like to imagine they fight with other Bogsneaks like giraffes, by hitting their necks together. Her mate is a [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/92325752]nature-eyed mirror[/url] (originally) that I bought to complete my collection of a meat in each flight (and also to send him to the coli, I hear nature does pretty well in the Ghostlight Ruins). So I wasn't really concerned about his gender or breed at the time. When I find an unrelated meat I tend to snatch it up right away and ask questions later! I Bog'd him to better pair with the light Obelisk that I also found in the wild, but it seems like now I have to find another mate for her... good thing making more meats are never a problem! It's not often at all I get to see a purple (almost blue!) grandparent in the mix. This has got to be one of my biggest ranges. AND, the spot with the biggest range (the secondary), just so happened to be the [i]perfect[/i] color. How fun! Completely unlike her husband though, she is much more organized and comes from parents who are extremely similar. Barely any variation at all, only a choice between two tertiaries. Gosh, that sure couldn't be me (LOL). But actually, Sanguine/Sanguine/white seems to be a very popular combo. So they settled in and eagerly awaited an adorable, fuzzy, feathery meat of their own. We thought it was going to be a while, though, because.... Say hello to Filet, born with Starmap/Shimmer/Firefly, goodbye lovely genes but you shall be meatified, as is ordained. And as luck would have it, that's exactly what happened! So I suppose he'll stay (and maybe become a throuple with the [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/3309468#post_56108002]wildclaw[/url]? So many meat possibilities!

From THIS range??? It's definitely not more likely than you think! Spanning the browns and the reds (plus whites for the tertiary), he's a very lucky boy! It seems like every time I think to myself "I'm just going to check the AH real quick before bed" I find an absolute gem like Huckle here and then stay up waaaay later than intended, oop. But isn't this incredible? Huckle's parent's range below. Her parents spanned a nice red range but she ended up rather close to the target! When the parents are so clearly destined to make meats like this, I am more than happy to oblige! This definitely doesn't happen often (first and only other time was [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/3309468/1#post_56108500]here[/url]), and no wonder: it's only a 2.2% chance for the 4-egg nest to have twins in the target color. Unfortunately, since all the meats need to be unrelated, we can only keep one. Born with Savannah/Peregrine/Underbelly, Tripe with the unusual eyes decided to stay and fulfill his meat destiny, while Meatling with rare eyes will follow in mom's footsteps to wander the land and extol the virtues of his birth clan. Not a huge range, but enough into the browns that there was no historical meat to be worried about. Flutter's parent's range below. With both parents XXY (Strawberry/Strawberry/white and pearl) it looks like they come from another line that breeds true (subspecies? or something like that?) as their bios have a link to the "Contagions" and a little blurb about how they serve the Plaguebringer. Wonderful stuff, and I hope they enjoy being a part of this as cause as well! Regardless, I am glad Satri ended up with the exact color needed in the only one that has a range. Probably more because I am sure they didn't have another nest immediately when their cooldown was up. But it was worth the wait because again they blessed us with TWO berry/berry/creams! Not sure what the hullabaloo is about giving duplicate colors but I can't complain. I ran the numbers again and turns out there was only a 1% chance to have two meats given the max nest size of 5. I suppose they aren't really twins at all; the fae has Flaunt/Noxtide/Underbelly and the spiral has Lionfish/Flair/Underbelly. So kind of opposites, really. Just little lads. Since we already have a spiral and a fae, he'll need breed changing anyway. Before he gets tossed in the plague pit though (to fulfull his meat destiny and get the appropriate genes), I think I will hold on to him for a little to see if we get a female ridgeback or snapper - the only two moderns I still need! Then we'll only need to breed change one, which will be less [s]traumatic[/s] expensive for everyone involved. If it takes too long though we might have to start venturing into collecting all of the ancients I don't have yet!
