I have decided to do a Breed Out The Basic challenge for every breed, including ancients. The real challenge is going to be seeing how far through I get before I lose interest and wander off to do something else!
We're starting with the plentiful breeds, so fae, guardian, mirror and tundra. I already have starting pairs for fae and guardians lined up, and put my guardians on a nest today.
Rules we're playing by:
-Buy the cheapest treasure priced triple basic of the applicable breed and the cheapest opposite-gender triple common-gened of the applicable breed from the AH. These are the starter pair. Pairs must be of the same breed. If I find it difficult to find triple basics of the rarer breeds I'll... burn that bridge when I come to it.
-Heirs are determined by how many gene upgrades they get; if there are multiple with the same number of upgrades, pick the one I think is nicest. If none of them have gene upgrades, none of them are heirs, and their parents shall be bred again to do better this time. This rule may be subject to change if I find breeding the same pair too many times to be boring. RULE UPDATE: They get two chances. Should they fail to produce an upgrade the second time, either my favourite of their existing children or a stashed-away relative takes on the duty. And their failure will be noted in the logs.
-Once the heir comes RTB, buy the cheapest RTB of the correct genes, gender and breed from the AH as their mate. This is to keep cooldown wait-times down, especially with the rarer breeds...
-Challenge ends either with an all-rare-gene baby OR if I'm feeling really spicy and want to keep going, TWO all-rare-gene babies of opposite genders. I reserve the right to try again if I find the supposed winner intolerably ugly, but I have soft spots for ugly dragons and there are always breed out the ugly challenges...
Winners will be enshrined in my hibden, unsuccessful infants and heirs who have fulfilled their purpose will be sold off or exalted. I might also keep the starter pairs in my hibden, depending on how quickly the slot unlocking goes...
