SHIMMERSHALE
Shimmershale was young, but very ambitious. She’d been figuring out what she wanted in these first few weeks in the creche. She was not as smart as some of the other dragons, and didn’t want to dedicate every waking moment to study; nor was she as ferocious as the defenders, who wandered the outskirts of their territory, watching for plague. She was rather mediocre at everything she put her claw to, actually. Perfectly serviceable, but never a master.
It was her mother who put the idea forward, the nestbuilder Rakgi.
“Your voice rings powerfully through the trees, little wing,” she had said, and Shimmershale had tested it right then. It did carry. Several little heads popped up from behind heavy roots and small bushes - wet-winged hatchlings of the Tangle responding to her call. She asked one of them, a little spiral, to fetch her some berries, and he did. The young dragon rewarded the hatchling with a portion of the haul.
“The Nestkeepers need kind hearts and big voices always,” Rakgi rumbles. “Arcanist knows you need to yell just to pull our clanmates from their studies.”
Now of age, Shimmershale settles into her freshly built nest and waits for her first suitor. Soon she will be welcomed into the ranks of the Matriarchs.
Waste not, want not. This will make for a warm addition to your den.

THE TANGLE
The central hub of the Hollow Woods is the Tangle, a densely wooded area. Larger species prefer not to venture too far into the thick forest here. Instead it’s dominated by graceful Skydancers, Pearlcatchers, Nocturnes, Veilspun, Fae, and Spirals (who take great joy in finding new and convoluted routes through the forest).

MUSIC
Some dragons sing not just to other dragons and the air, but to crystals. Skilled singers are able to coax harmonic resonances from the crystal growths throughout their territory. The snapper Talfana is one of the most accomplished crystal singers in the clan, having honed her craft through years of travel and exploring other musical traditions.
Those dragons who have migrated from the neighbouring Scarred Wasteland and Dragonhome employ more drums in their music. The crystals seem to respond to these with pulsating thrums of energy.
Tachinid fly carapaces are sometimes ground up and used in tinctures and tonics due to their highly valuable restorative properties.

CELEBRATIONS
Starfall Celebration is often when the most newcomers join the clan. Dragons from the Wind, Earth, and Plague flights are common, but some even make their way from the other side of the world. They are drawn to the cool, starlit clearings of the Tangle, and the pink-hued sands of the crystal beaches overlooked by the Oculus.
Clan members of the Water flight, and other swimming dragons, hold a diving competition on Wavecrest Saturnalia every year. Overseen by the Oculus, this event was originally created to search out a ley line deep in Maren territory. Over time, the clan has made a tentative alliance with the local Maren, and now and then the bravest can occasionally be seen squinting up at the sky from the water’s surface.
Particularly vibrant specimens are collected by fae dragons and pinned to the walls of their dens. Fae dragons are weird.
