Chapter Eleven: New Faces
Weeks had passed now since Nebulum and Yahir had not only shared a nest, but watched the hatchlings grow up and find new homes. Rune was the only one to stay, and along with her, Nebulum was pleasantly surprised to find that Yahir did not want to leave. However, he also felt uneasy at the idea of having her around. What if he ever ran into sky again? How would she feel about any of this?
The fae mumbled to himself, but smiled softly when he looked at the two accompanying him across the Shattered Plains. Rune was sleeping on top of Yahir's back, curled up between the larger dragons wings, next to her was the new froggy companion that Yahir had wanted to keep. The male fae sighed a little as he flew up to perch on Yahir's head, the gaurdian letting out a low grumble of amusement as he did. He let out a small chuckle in return, and looked ahead as they walked across the plains. It was about time Nebulum moved on from the earth clan, and see the rest of the territories, as he had dreamed of doing so many months earlier.
The fae laid down on Yahirs head, and closed his eyes, soaking up the warm rays of sun, and catching his breath.
When he woke up not long after, yahir had stopped and laid down, and Rune had disappeared. At first, Nebulum didn't take much notice, and then he bolted up right and let out a loud mew of panic. He flew down to the ground and quickly searched the area. Yahir moved slightly from the loud commotion Nebulum was making, and slowly got up. The fae looked up at her with panic in his eyes. "Rune's Gone!"
Yahir blinked slowly, then stood up fully and motioned for Nebulum to get up on her back. The fae quickly flew up, and then the two set out to look for their missing daughter.
It didn't take long before the duo found her, along with 2 new faces.
Nebulum immediately flew down and hugged Rune when he saw her, holding her face in his clawed hands and making sure she was ok. He brushed a few of the snow flakes off her cheeks and sighed in relief as the fae smiled in the direction she thought her father was. Nebulums attention then turned towards the two dragons next to him.
The first, was a small feathered dragon, whom at first glance looked more like a bird than what she really was, a fae. Her green and purple scales stood out against the dusty yellow of the plains.
Beside her, was a much larger, pale grey and brown pearlcatcher. She looked down at nebulum with a raised eyebrow.
"I take it the girl belongs with you?" Nebulum glared slightly at the pearlcatcher.
"She does, Why was she with you?" The pearlcatcher placed the glowing orb she held in her claws on the ground softly, then held her hands up in the air in submission. Her fae companion curled around the glowing orb to protect it from the trio in front of them.
"She found us. My friend had recently lost her eye, and i dunno, I guess she sniffed out her injury? She just flew in and immediately started to sniff my friend until she found the bandages." Rune made a small chirp in agreement, and moved towards moss, pointing to where the bandages covered her face. Nebulum looked at the two with a sceptical glare.
"How did it happen?"
"that's for us to know only." Nebulum continued to look at the two with sceptisism, but softened his stance as Yahir bent her head down to gently sniff at the other fae. The feathered bundle shy'd away from the much larger dragon, and cowered under her friend. The pearlcatcher picked up the glowing orb, and her friend and held them close. Nebulum let out a small frustrated sigh.
"What's your names?" The pearlcatcher smiled softly.
"i'm granite, this is moss. She doesn't really talk to others, she just whispers to me when she wants to talk." As if on cue, the small fae flew up to her companions ear, and squeeked into her ear in a barely audible tone. The pearlcatcher tensed up a bit, and muttered to her friend, before slumping and looking at nebulum. "She...want's to know where you guys are heading, and if we could tag along."
Nebulum blinked, then looked up at yahir, the gaurdian smiling and nodding a bit. He then looked to Rune who nodded enthusiastically. Nebulum grumbled. "i see you two aren't even going to question it.." he sighed. "I guess i'm out numbered. We're heading to the Arcane clan boarder, and if you want to tag along, then go ahead." Moss let out a loud squeek of excitement, while Granite seemed even more slouched with her stance, but she quickly straightened up, and got on all fours, putting the glowing orb and moss on her back softly.
"that's in the general direction of where we need to go anyway. We appreciate you're hospitality." The male fae muttered under his breathe as the two stood behind Yahir. Rune poked her fathers tail, and smiled widely, before hugging his leg. She then flew up, and hovered near Yahir until she found a place to sit on her back, and proceeded to sit down. The group then looked at nebulum, who sighed and nodded as he hovered in the air.
"let's get going then."
