Wow. Not 'wow' in a 'you liar' way or 'wow' in an actual wow way but ... Wow. Not cool.
Wow, people can be that jerky? *shakes head* Manners aside, that's not how you (drama rising yous, not Izakadu-you) debate. It doesn't quite work that way. First of all, it's not really an argument at all. "Go die" convinces me of what....exactly? Then it's a logical fallacy. "Ad hominem". Against the man, rather than the argument.
I don't know that it's the internet itself though. Human + Machine + Machine + Human has a tendency to not be pretty. We called it "Road Rage" before the internet then it was "GIFT."
As for Unicorns and Rainbows, this is the b
est I can do.

I'm EIGHT/8/Eight hours ahead of FR Time.
Yep yep. Having a closed community with occasional open registrations seems much better to me than having continuous open reg.

Were you on tumblr? That sounds like tumblr.

Izakadu ouch -are you sure those people are actually on FR? I've been here almost since the game started, and have only met two unpleasant players. Both of them have had their accounts locked, and everything has seemed peaceful since.
Maybe I've missed out on stuff? I visit the forums almost every day, including my flight forum, and there never seems to be any major issues. Sure, there's some disgruntled economists here and there, occasionally a bit of healthy discussion tipping towards drama, and the suggestion boards always struggles with its resident trolls. But all of this is pretty mild and harmless, right?
It seems to me that the FR community that actually plays the game and posts in the forums are not the same people as those who make up problems on other forums.
The way I see it, the FR community as a whole is awesome because what goes on outside the game is not part of the game :3

FR is a closed community and all the bad apples get kicked out, not being given the chance to keep causing a ruckus once they're banned. That has worked excellently to keep the community an exceptionally warm and friendly one, and I, personally, hope that registration will stay closed and open only sporadically to keep the sites community the way it is.
On sites like Drama Rising, though, you still have those bad apples that got banned for their bad behavior. And now they're angry. So, really, what can be expected? FR's own community however is unusually lovely and have always been, with only a few bouts of bad drama here and there.
Guys its inevitable, FR will go down the pits as well with other social sites, the bigger the site gets, the more bad apples we'll get. Such is the sad fact of life.
Yes, toxic and negative people are a fact of the internet. Anonymity tends to bring out the worst in people.
That does not mean we have to permit them to infect and control our communities just because they exist.
Flight Rising is a community filled with artists, writers, creative people of all types, people passionate about petsims, adoptables, being around other like-minded players. We want that, we want Flight Rising to be a place where you can spend time positively interacting with others, sharing your ideas, dragons, art, etc. Within the Site Rules & Guidelines, of course. ;)
This also means Flight Rising is not a place for toxic, negative people who detract from all I mentioned above. If someone has come here in order to be a negative influence, they are not welcome here and we will do all that we can to ensure our community remains positive and healthy.

I think it's definitely possible to have a 'nice' community even once we get permanently open registration. It just requires some strict moderating standards/slaps on the wrist for those who tend to get overly argumentative. (Any harassment / death threads and whatnot would obviously not be tolerated anyway.) The only risk is of moderation going too far and turning this into a kid-gloves site like neopets, which I don't think anyone wants...
Anyway, there are always going to be nasty people all over the internet. FR doesn't allow for much of that on things like its forums etc, so if you see negativity, it's going to be off-site.
