typically it's Eyes > Element for me but occasionally i wouldn't mind resorting to something only vaguely similar if it means i get to skip breeding entirely (my blorbo is, in fact, with ice eyes instead of water or shadow eyes. but skydancers have them barely visible anyway)

It depends on the fandragon. A lot of the fandragons I have/am working on need red eyes because of their source material, so plague eyes are a requirement for me (although I'm willing to use arcane eyes if it would be significantly easier). For the others, it's less necessary, although I try to make it match as well as I can.

I just want it to be matchy to the scry, doesn't have to be the same as the character's eye color or represent anything, I just want it to look good
Ehh, on occasion
[effect dragon=46610924]
HermaeusMora wouldn't be the same with any other element but Fire (Light could work, but blends too much into the genes for my taste)

Airazor (scry), meanwhile, could work with any sufficiently matchy eyes

and then GrilCheeWifJelly (scry) has an even wider matchy range, since they just need to be dark-ish

This dragon is displaying an cosmetic effect.
What follows is the item description:
VGA MEMORY DUMP: Dragon hoarding all 2MB of video RAM for coolness simulation.
ADVISORY: Dragons require minimum 24-bit true color to display proper coolness.
FATAL ERROR: Dragon attempted to render self in 8K, system now on fire.
Like apparel, skins, and scenes, effects are purely cosmetic items that can be added and removed from dragons at any time
This is a static effect.

I'll be honest, it does matter but less than the color genes for my projects. I keep track of AH for dragons with the right genes but better eye colors... But I'll definitely BUY dragons with the wrong eye color.

For me matchy eyes mean everything :') I probably overreact about it but I just would not calm down if dragon that I'm working on would have wrong eye color x.x So I am a super happy member of the nesting network :)
...oh and don't even get me started about G1s with matchy eyes...
