not fandom dragons but dragons of my own characters, tho if I were to do I would go off eye colours as main as well. if element can match their power, even better but I rather ignore it and would use apparel to show it of - I have earth dragon for very fire magic oriented guy, water for lady who would be also fire tho more blue/purple
I am in general picky about eyes (less so if right g1), they are important design detail for me in my own art/character designs. I did had few times where I adapted character design to better match FR version (tho I would rather say this is because I was still anyway yet shaping design, so eye colour being settled instead of me was nice. I have green eyed character who would othervise be brown. I don't think I would ever design character with green eyes on intention as I don't really like green oops so that was good one)
Yes and no. It depends on the character/thing I'm recreating. Most of the time it's a bonus if I can get the eyes to be within a certain range; others it's if I can't get this particular element in these colors in this particular kind of eye then it's kind of a no go.
Current example of the latter being my Rey Dau I'm working on, I wanted it to have Lightning Primal (it shoots lightning from its face that's like a key characteristic) so I had to search for a few days to find a lightning dragon that fit, even though there were more lovely matchy plague dragons that ideally were better color-wise. Whereas my Gore Magala dragon just needed a color that was dark enough to make them disappear on the rest of the dragon (canonically don't have eyes).
And then I've got like a whole bunch of other dragons where the eye colors really did not matter one bit.

yeah I like for the element to make sense, but sometimes I choose elements based on the vibes of the character or magical abilities they have, rather than their actual eye colour (same with breeds, I pick those based on the character's personality too). for example one plan I have at the moment is going to be a Light dragon - the character's eyes are blue canonically, probably closer to Ice, but Light makes more sense lore-wise since he's an angel and loves books. I value lore accuracy just as much as visuals, the colour is usually a secondary priority
I used to but ehh not so much anymore
I AM picky about if the eyecolour fits the overall design though, if it's too distracting or on a breed with bigger eyes I'll try and match to the original character

Yes absolutely! I have spent so much money over at Triskel nests to get the right eye color. It's made me notice just how many water-themed fandragons I have lol.

Yes. I care about the element and it is important to me. The element must match or be neutral to the character. Eye colour is whatever it is then.

Yes, unless it's going to be covered by apparel. But moreso to match eye color than to do with the element.

Sometimes yes, most of the time no. I’m not going to pass up on a dragon with all of the right colors because the eyes are wrong, especially if it’s a species that has hard to see eyes. Usually when hunting in the AH I set eye color to see if I can get lucky and find the right one but I won’t give up on a dragon because of that.

I used to care, but honestly I don't have the patience to find a breeding pair and then someone who can breed them for the correct element these days. If the eyes are important to their design, then yeah, I'll put in the effort. But otherwise it doesn't matter to me.

I usually try my best to find a dragon with the right element to match the eye color of the character I'm making.
Though if I'm able to find a G1 with the right gene colors, I'm a bit more lenient on the eyes of the dragon. But yeah unless the dragon is a G1 the eyes have to match.
