TOPIC | Blocking people who won't sell fodder?
@peppermintwater

As someone who will not sell fodder back especially during Plague dom battles, I find very little reason to block people who would ask me about it. Forgetting a zero in the listing is unfortunate, but happens. I can make exceptions. Accidentally selling a dragon outright is so rare that I don't expect it to come up.

I'm the exact type of person you're talking about here and I can say that I'm fine with it

I can't speak FOR them so take this with a grain of salt- But I would imagine that the players you're talking about probably are like.. not surprised seeing random people having them blocked? Like not in a bad way, just like, there's no way you'd be the first and only account they'd ever see having them blocked. They probably are like "this might be someone uncomfortable with my rules, okie dokie they have their boundaries and I have mine", and not "omg who is this random jerk-butt what did I do to them!!!"

Again, this is just my assumption. It's just that I'd guess if they have those rules in the first place, they already have their reasons and experiences for them and I'd imagine it be ideal for the person reading them to decide for themselves if they feel off put and want to avoid them.

Maybe you might miss the potential for a positive interaction, but there'd also hundreds of other players out there interact with. If you feel the potential for a negative interaction makes you uneasy (I completely understand the fear of accidentally mispricing a dragon and being sad about not getting it back), it's totally fair imo to "cover that base"

I won't outright say what my own block list is based on, but some of it is just .. "this player just makes me uncomfortable so I'm gonna close the door for the potential for a personal interaction". If someone thinks I'm a jerk, *shrug* like I said there's hundreds of other players out there to play the game with.

Hope that's a helpful perspective!
The culture here is block whoever for whatever reason. I have seen threads talking about people who block certain people on the ah because of the sheer number of their listings so they dont have to click through them just to get to other things
Guilty as charged here (/vlh), we've ran into a couple users who have us blocked recently and realized it's very likely due to our habit of mass-listing on the AH... and yeah that's fair, that's very fair lol. FR culture is very much "block anyone for any reason." We run into users who have us blocked and we've never taken offense or found it especially odd. We've also blocked users for somewhat unconventional reasons, like their avatar dragon making us queasy or the user tending to make negative forum posts. Blocking someone for their gameplay style is a perfectly valid part of one's own gameplay style. Similarly, remembering that your gameplay style is "blockable" can be a freeing part of the site! We feel better with our usage of the AH knowing someone can block us to not be affected by it. Mold the site to your liking, we're all here to have fun.
The thing is just that I can't help worrying if I accidentally do happen to sell a dragon that I did not mean to, then I would not want to lose it in a situation like that. So it's just me trying to cover my bases.
The thing that gets me about this is that no one's ever obligated to sell you back a dragon you clicked on in the AH window, listed a price, clicked "Post Auction" and then clicked "Yes" to the confirmation window. There are several ways to make it impossible to sell a dragon without additonal steps, including apparel, skins, familiars, etc. You are, of course, allowed to block anyone you like for whatever reason or even no reason at all. I would encourage you, though, to reframe your thinking about who a dragon belongs to if you go through all the steps above and then might possibly get upset if the other person doesn't want to part with a dragon that is theirs, no longer yours. You'll probably save yourself some heartache if you secure dragons you don't want to sell, are attentive while listing dragons, and make sure your expectations align with site rules for other players' behavior.
This is my reasoning as well. You're far more likely to exalt your own dragon by accident than you are to sell a dragon you didn't mean to sell, just from all the prompts that are involved. Want one of my weird color combo kids or a plaguey dragon I hatched myself? Sure, we can work it out. Want buybacks of dragons you sold in the middle of a frantic dom push because you didn't realize the floor price climbed to 15kT and you didn't want them exalted? No. That's just seller remorse.

You can block anyone you choose. :) Heck, I've blocked someone before for having the 'will not sell fodder' stuff all over. They had a gorgeoussssssss G1 in colors I'd been hunting for for awhile in their fodder tab, leveled to 6 to go. But their rules were no matter what, they will not sell any fodder dragons. Personally hoped that by blocking them I won't see the dragon again when I run searches and will never know the day she meets her fate. xD

It would be one thing in the middle of a dom fight or something...but if it's just sitting there waiting to be liquidated, it seems silly to want want under 15kt/g for something someone would happily over a 1kg for.

I've blocked people for frivolous reasons, and I'm sure people have done the same with me :] whether they don't like that I exalt fodder gen ones, or I listed a skin on the AH for "too much," or they don't like the fandom that I display on my profile, or I came across as annoying in the forums. I don't take it personally when I see I've been blocked, I just block them back and move on with my day.

And I can say that I have indeed blocked people for having "I don't sell fodder dragons" on their profile. In fact, they usually have some disclaimer that you can block them if their playstyle bothers you, so I doubt they take it personally

Block whoever for whatever! If anyone's upset then it's not really your fault. Plus nobody would have a real reason to be upset

Though, you're probably not going to get what you want (safety from accidental listings and getting them back) through blocking others. I'd recommend putting a scene/familiar/apparel or skins on your permas, and separate the ones moving into a different tab. Even if you just don't want to sell it then, like when listing fodder, you can quickly shove a familiar on them and list just the fodder.

i'll say my biggest thing to learn about blocking: blocking is not a moral thing or judge of character. on any site i may block someone just because they slightly disagree with me over something benign. not in a rage or hatred way, just in a . okay well i don't care to see and block.

the more you see block as just a feature of being online rather than panicking about why you were blocked or worried about people seeing it, it gets a lot easier. i've seen myself blocked a couple of times by randos and at most i'm like "oh i wonder what forum post did it" as a joke but genuinely. important. you just have to not care including not caring that people will see themselves blocked.

aka: i love blocking and everyone should know it's just a feature on a site. everyone should embrace the block button and not care <3

edit: i'll also add like people said, keeping a scene, familiar, skin, apparel or something else will keep you from being able to accidentally listing them if that helps!

A square badge with the fire sprite turned away from the viewer, looking at a long scroll with pure joy. The scroll says 'TFM' for 'The Fire Masterlist'. Clicking on this will redirect you to the in flight thread if you are a fire flight member.A watercolor drawing of a Flameback slink with a flaming marshmallow on a stick in is mouth. It is smiling and covered in stickers. By its tail is the text 'Any pronouns, Autism + ADHD, FR time +3' and two envelopes.
