TOPIC | No-effort Blossoms
I'm super happy with the change. I love blossom and its nice to be able to actually get a gene scroll instead of having to breed for it, like when the blossoms were super rare.

I personally love that familiars drop useful items ( the skinks especially ). It gives more incentive for people to interact with the familiars as a site activity for more than just festivals, and honestly, I doubt it will effect the market that much.

If they keep adding more items to the potential pool the familiar bonding can drop then the mums will just become rarer from familiar bonding, thus maintaining some of their rarity and value.

As others have pointed out, gathering doesn't really take any effort. I'd argue it takes even less effort than familiar bonding. I also don't think it's a great way to facilitate an enjoyable site experience when a player is constantly having to decide between farming a rare item, or feeding their dragons.

Lastly, bonding with familiars is honestly just better for site revenue. It loads more ads than gathering, and giving people more reasons to bond with their familiars; thus loading pages and generating more ads; is always going to be better for the overall longevity of the site.

Account less than a year old? Ask me about free dragons!
Bought and kept some of my fodder? Ask me about a free renaming scroll!

Does putting lore on dragons ever get less daunting?
I've been bonding with my familiars almost daily since pink mums became a dropable thing from familiars bc i need blossom for a project

i had 16 back then.

Now i have 17.

Idk what kind of drop luck y'all have but i would like some of it.

Idk, I'd rather not blow my entire vault savings for one single-use item. I agree with having some harder to get items in the game but, I think this is a fine compromise. The drop rate for them is still pretty low and it encourages me to interact more with site activities. I'd have to double check but I think I've only gotten like 2 or 3 since they were added.

As someone who likes to gene gen1s and avoids Blossom like the plague because of it's price tag, I'm happy that it finally is a tiny bit more reachable.

And after many, many years with little to no progress of obtaining a stack of them for my x99 of each food item collection, I'm happy to see the number slowly rising.
(my dragons eat SO MUCH MEAT that I can't waste a single turn in Foraging, really)

Gathering exclusive items needed for swaps are the one part of this site that actively angers me. Only 15 chances a day to MAYBE hit for the rare item you need 20 or 50 or 90 or 200 of OR more likely you'll get nothing but a run of singular 2 point food items. Even if I do get the thing I want I don't feel I've "earned" anything because there is no skill involved in the process. It's all RNG. It's not even the fun kind of gambling :V

On the other hand, it's more satisfying to get something from bonding fams bc making the friend-o-meter go up is my main goal with that which makes it a fun bonus on my journey to small creature enlightenment. It's nice to be able to slowly build up a small supply of mums from fam bonding so that I might have a chance to trade for a Blossom someday on the side, as I'll be spending the next decade or so of gathering turns working on swipp trade fams. (Currently: 5 months in the giant darner mines. I'm sure the last two will turn up by April or so, and then I can start on the OTHER dragonfly. :/)

EDIT: A kind soul gifted me the last two giant darners I needed, thank you very much ;w;

Once they finally add blossom for moderns (which they totally could because it's just flower gembond) the mums will be back in higher demand.

I'm personally just hoarding my mums on the off chance moderns finally get a tert port expansion from ancients. Moderns haven't gotten any terts in ages and are due for some. Ancients have many that could be ported over, even expluding the linebreaking ones.

Moderns are largely more popular than ancients, so if blossom gets added to moderns, people would need a lot more mums. Some hypothesize that mums may have been added as drops in preperation but I'm not sure. I do hope we get it some time soon.

I love that Pink Mums are more accessible now. Since they were added to familiar bonding, Blossom went from an item I refused to scry to having bought over 60 Pink Mums for projects. I'm also SUPER thrilled that it lessens the pressure on gathering because no one needs that much plant food.

I know there was a minority that liked how difficult it was to obtain Pink Mums but, like, I have other things I want to work on too. IMO 2+ months of fruitless foraging and praying to RNGesus is insane. I can't think of any other game that has a project expectancy of that length.
That said... I think people were overstating how rare they were. I gather in Foraging regularly (read: every day except during festivals) because I have a ton of Tundras and Skydancers. I think what was rare actually was people Foraging. It seemed like more people preferred to gamble for the higher pay-off in Scavenging looking for elemental eggs. If that's true, then it's just hilarious they'd complain when they didn't get what they weren't looking for. Mums were a <6mo gathering proposition in my experience. Mums dropped a few times a week. If the mums dropping from familiars is what it takes for people to realize they are only as rare as we make them... Never mind. I think we won't learn anything. Overall, I think the actual change to mum-drops is probably.. very low. It's mostly psychological. The mum price dropped same-day before we really had a chance.
In the time period it took my foraging to go from level 34 to 40, I only got ~10 (probably less) mums. Just because you don’t find it a challenge doesn’t mean that the rest of us aren’t sick of it. 6 months is WAY too much time for a single consumed on use item.
