Did she cook them too long, or maybe too short? She wanted to please them so badly but didn’t have the money for culinary school and was flat-out rejected by every single scholarship. No one wanted to fund her and her muffins, her delicious pastries, and her eggs that made dragons gag. She just had to keep practicing, she told herself, and family and friends didn’t have the heart to tell her she just wasn’t cut out to being a baker. Firstly, she showed the kids all of her own fire safety gear, pictures of controlled burns, and other instances where her teammates had stepped in before or after catastrophe struck. Being a firefighter wasn’t all glamorous, she had explained, before bringing out the fire extinguisher. The hatchlings wanted to see it in action, and she had obliged. Instead of spraying one of the kids like they wanted to, Mayora decided the natural coarse of action was to start her own fire. Except for the fire extinguisher was expired, which was apparently important, and it jammed and never sprayed, leaving Mayora to call her teammates panicked as she herded the kids out of her own home. The fire blazed, as big as any bonfire as it burned her home to the ground, literally. At least there were marshmallows she’d managed to snag, and she passed around sticks.
