Unfortunately for a game like fr the constant flow of updates is what keeps players interested. If they just stop or slow down too much a lot of people would just lose interest. That’s how many games die

Aether release was probably the low point of the site for me. Breed was extremely mid, and the lore story tone is not appropriate for the site. It feels like bad comedy, like a SNL skit instead of an encyclopedia entry. F all around, and it soured me on the breed in an irreversible way.

Yeeeeeeah. I like Aethers, but I did not enjoy their story very much. Same with the Sandsurge story. It feels like the lore is heading more in a less serious direction overall and I'm not a fan. I don't enjoy goofy stories much at all (though the event with fathoms was great! Loved that lore), and I fear that the Dusthide and Everlux stories might be similarly goofy too :<

If you think about it, a site like this is a Live-Service game, and to draw in players/money to keep it afloat, they need consistent updates...
but i do agree, i find ancients are now overshadowing moderns (which is to be expected due to art assets being hand drawn.) and im honestly starting to forget some breeds. I forgot dusthide existed until i saw the thread about them not having rockbreakers lol.

I like seeing all the new lore! I'm slowly reorganizing/purging/solidifying my lair lore/dragon info, and I like how the new ancients fill specific niches. It gives me more ideas on how dragons interact in the FR world, and how I can build my own clan's lore around their habits/likes/etc.. While I do like the new friendlier direction staff has taken with the beastclans, I do wish that decision was made earlier as I've had to completely rethink some of my lore, but oh well. I may just keep some of it the same and live in my own little world, as some other users do.
I wasn't originally a fan of the aether release lore, but I think their moth-like appearance and the fact that they canonically enjoy living in mixed-element lairs due to living in an orbiting ship really tipped me into liking them. Everluxes are chomky caterpillar fellas that have a lot of my favorite genes as well. I think their size also helps me enjoy them and fit them into my clan, as well as the fact that I believe they'd get along well with coatls for various reasons.
I do wish we had official size charts for dragons, so you could see how big each breed is next to each other (Or even a scaleable one that lets you put in two specific dragons to see how they size up!). I know there are off site calculators but they're not always updated right away and it would nice to have an on-site resource for it. It makes writing a lot easier to me to be able to visualize how species and even individual dragons in my lair size up.
TL;DR, I like all the new stuff, it keeps me engaged, I wish we had more tools to help us visualize the FR world. I'm not sure we even know how big some of the beastclans are compared to dragon species! I do also agree I wish some of the stories were less goofy. It matched the Aether species to be very silly, but I don't think that tone works well with *every* dragon/release.

I really think that Flight Rising is only interesting to the extent that you make it interesting - new updates are necessary to keep the playerbase active and growing, as someone else said, but there's not an obligation to engage with every single content update. More genes, apparel, and familiars might feel like filler, but there's a LOT of people who care about what might seem like "visual noise."
For me, making the game interesting involves striving toward completionist goals like expanding my den fully, collecting fams, and completing achievements. I'm a gen one lair because there's a huge sense of accomplishment at every completed project that I just don't get from bred dragons, and that keeps the game feeling fresh for me. Especially when a new gene is exactly what I needed!
Another thing that has kept me around for 9 years is the occasional hiatus. Festival fams and things can suck to miss out on, but they're usually well within feasible ranges to purchase even years later. When you come back, everything is shiny and new.
These are just my thoughts on the matter. Make of it what you will. :)

I feel overwhelmed with the massive amount of options I have to choose from. New features don't bother me much but sometimes it gets confusing if I've taken a break and then come back (Parchment system for example).
I now stick to G1's and specifically breed fodder for myself to fund my own projects. I used to run a hatchery but it got too overwhelming to try and manage.

I do agree that new breeds in particular are very bloated. I hope that after the Wind ancient releases they'll start to slow down on it to give people a chance to breathe. I'd love to get some new lore soon, too. (Especially Beastclans. Almost 2 years and we still only have harpy lore...)

Nope I love new stuff. Makes the site way more active and keeps me interested. Hell I'd like it if it were faster but understand that's probably not possible or comfortable for the devs. If I don't really feel like bothering with a certain feature that comes out I just leave it and maybe try it out later.
