i never post but im putting my two cents in, i think this dragon is not suited for light, because it doesn't look anything close to how the other light dragons look.
Counterpoint: I'm in Wind, and we do not have an ancient yet. And quite frankly, if we get yet another noodle-shaped, spindly dragon, I'm going to be very underwhelmed. When Dusthides came out, I remember quite a few Earth flight members expressing their disappointment at receiving a third "heavy, bulky Earth breed," and I can empathize with the feeling. It's a bit disheartening to have your flight's respective breeds boiled down into one visual aesthetic because "that's how this flight is supposed to look."
Not liking new dragon breeds is completely fine. I have no qualms with people who are ready to go "Well, not for me!" and wipe their hands of Everluxes. Discussion around negative reactions and critiques is also fair! Can't please 'em all, that's just the way it is.

I never thought I'd post on a thread about disliking a new release, but I feel I have to get this off my chest.
This is the first time I've genuinely disliked a FR design.
Sure, some designs haven't been exactly my cup of tea, but I've still enjoyed them, and in the case of new breeds, I've always enjoyed scrying a good chunk of my dragons to see if they'd look good with a breedchange. But with Everlux (love the name tho), I just can't. I can't help but feel like there's two or three different designs melded into one, and rather than having the parts play off of each other to make a more interesting final result, they just undermine each other.
The body feels like it would fit better if the limbs were thicker and/or longer, or if the whole design read more like a caterpillar's. The head, awesome in its own way, makes me think more of a large, powerful breed, and not of a curious / knowledge-seeking bookwyrm. The limbs, wings included, look like they'd fit better with an overall delicate design, kind of like the Lightweaver's own general look.
All in all, I'm kind of angry at myself for not being able to like them; their individual parts look good, their poses are great, and their genes are outright amazing; I'm especially a fan of Throne/Crown, Circulaworm/Silkspot, and Sunsail, Eclipse and Rift.

"It doesn't fit lights aesthetic" like angels can't be "fat?" Look at cherubs ***. "Angelic" does not equate "skinny". Being disappointed is fine but some of you are equating ugliness to being fat. We have plenty of svelte breeds, one more round one won't kill your crops.
I like them. Much more than dusthides and undertides. My one gripe is wings, I dont think they needed them.
i really think this is stretching what people are saying by a lot. i have seen no one say that the weight/heftiness of the dragon is the issue, only that they don't like bugs and the leg anatomy is a bit strange. grubs are not elegant or angelic. they conjure images of slime and slugs and make a lot of people uncomfortable. there were a lot of other bugs that are much more elegant: caterpillars or iridescent beetles for instance.
since a lot of people keep asking, here are some elegant traits or things that could make a dragon more elegant/angelic, as these are the main pillars of the lights flights aesthetic:
- iridescence or shininess
- long hair or mane like velispuns
- posing (ie. not all hunched over and cowering)
- huge wings or multiple wings
- multiple eyes
- facial expression
a dragon matching its flight aesthetic is crucial, and all past ancients have done so. undertides have fins and specifically ocean oriented terts, velispuns have long manes and bug wings that match the shadowy forest witch/fairy aesthetic, gaolers are stocky with lots of fur which makes sense for large, guardians of a frozen prison, aethers are curious, semi-eldritch bug eyed explorers which again, fits with the space aesthetic, abberations are multi-headed with sharp claws and fangs: i could go on.

Tbh people who are not in the Light flight shouldnt really get a say if the actual Light flight members are not satisfied with the Light breed. Its their favourite aesthetics and concept so who are you to not allow them to complain about it.
The other 10 flights have just as much access to the rest of the game as you do. Considering that you chose to be a part of the Light flight gives you absolutely no jurisdiction as to what other people have opinions about.

they worded it a little strange but i get the gist of what they’re trying to say. i think they’re implying that people shouldn’t dog on light flighters who are dissatisfied because the breed didn’t fit their flight expectations. it is slightly frustrating that some people are trying to say “well it’s cool that it doesn’t completely match” to people who had expectations that it would look super, well, light-y. i think a lot of other ancients matched really well and we kinda expected the same.
i think everyone’s entitled to an opinion here though, regardless of flight or aesthetic. if you're not light you’re fine to comment on the breed 100000%. i think what they’re getting at is more of reactions to light flighters from people who aren’t into the aesthetic like they are ^^

Feel like they'd make a good Giratina fandragon. They got the same build and a lotta leggies

I was completely and entirely expecting another relatively basic ancient and the devs came so far out of left field with this it canceled out and is coming out of right field. I love my little maggot dragons and think they’re perfectly elegant.
I also think it’s a little neat that shadow and light both get insect themed ancients.

This articulates my thoughts regarding the design incredibly well, thank you. It's not chubbiness that detracts from the Everluxes' "conformity" to the more general Light aesthetic (chubby/robust builds are not mutually exclusive with elegance; I've stated this before elsewhere and I stand by it), it's grubbiness.

i love em , they totally threw out all expectations i had for a light flight ancient , as a light flight member myself , in a good way . but i've always thought the lightweaver herself looked a bit insect-like , so the idea that she might create a dragon that reflects that seems perfectly in line with the light flight's aesthetic to me .
i also think it opens up some interesting symbolism , with all light flight dragons representing the past in some way . a grub-like species ( a 'precursor' to a full grown insect ) , alongside the pearlcatchers who obsess over their pearls as a tangible representation for their memories , and the imperials which , of course , have their unique interaction with death . but that's just my stretch of an interpretation .

Okay so after pondering it more here are some more thoughts:
-I’m glad staff listened to the people who were asking for fat dragons and ancients with unconventional designs! I’m also glad the Everlux didn’t turn out to be another cutesy flat-faced breed like the last couple ancients - I had been hoping for something sort of weird and creepy for the light ancient because of all the dark spooky undertones of the lore
-I wish they either had thicker legs or no legs at all. The tiny legs look too small and I think they’d look so much better with a more even distribution of fat on their bodies
-This is our third bug-based ancient breed, so as much as I love bugs it feels like we’re just retreading ground here. That said if the light ancient really has to be another bug dragon I think not making it a firefly is a huge missed opportunity
-Between the somewhat clunky design (legs, female pose belly/tail connection) and the speed with which they were released, I feel like the Everlux were rushed in order to be released on the anniversary of the Veilspun release. In general I wish staff would slow down a bit on the breed releases, it can’t be easy or fun to have to constantly crank out new dragons and it gets tiring from a player perspective
-I think it would have been cool to have a hare/rabbit dragon for light since we’re already associated with rabbits. Alternatively, something built like a centaur or other creature from Greek mythology would be awesome and very fitting for the whole philosophy/scholar vibe light has!

@neocardinia Of course. Im just saying that some Light members voiced their opinion that the new breed doesnt feel Light adjacent, and some non-Light members jump to lecture them about what Light flight concept is. It just feels patronizing in rude way
Hi @FlowerOfFire, we think they meet the concept of Light Flight, because the Flight concepts, the elemental forces of Sornieth, are more than just the shape of the body.

And now it's time for a time-out. This thread is moving fast and is once again starting on a downward spiral. Everyone take a break, take a breather, and we can revisit this thread and the overall topic in the morning.
