TOPIC | hardest class you've ever taken?
Im looking back into going to school for linguistics or communications or maybe a foreign language. Those are my strengths.

When I was young and naive, I took a class called “life in the universe”. I thought, SO cool and SO easy? Just talking about if aliens maybe exist? Easy.

I hadn’t taken calculus or physics. Holy cannoli it was so friggin hard. Complex mathematical formulas about the gravitational pull based on the size of the star, secondary planets, and that planets hypothetical moon to see if it could theoretically support life.

So hard and I begged that professor to withdraw me. Only thing I learned was that climate change is 99.999% real and they used Venus formulas as an example. Don’t ask me about them tho bc I suck at math

My school didn’t follow the traditional English class course, but my absolute most difficult class i ever took was my english teacher’s mythology class. If you didnt keep up every day and fell behind a little, you were basically screwed. AND the exam was a 50 slide presentation where you had to compare characters from Star Wars with myths such as, the one I chose my name from, Perseus and Medusa. I ended up failing it because i am notorious for being bad with getting assignments in, and ended up falling extremely behind in it lmao.

The only other way I would consider a class difficult is if it was a strictly ONLINE class and i barely passed 80% of the ones I was given. Im so lucky i only had exams in one of the three this last section, i would have absolutely flunked them so hard

Thank you for making this forum, I just finished high school on friday and am feeling very sad that i had to say goodbye to the staff i never knew that I would end up loving so much.

In uni I had theoretical chemistry, it was an obligatory class for our degree. A lot of quantum chemistry&physics, a lot of crazy math, it was the hardest class I had. People had their thesis ready and still couldn't get their degree because this one class was holding them- I've heard a story of one student who kept trying to pass it for 4 years.
Well, at least now when I have a new challenge on my way, I tell myself that I managed to learn theoretical chemistry so I can learn anything : D

Intro to chemistry, dropped out of the class and switched my major in a span on two days LMAO I went from becoming a forensic entomologist to studying expressive art therapy/going into the mental health field through art!

A class I took that was hard but I didn't drop from was Bronze Casting! It was so much fun, and such a cool experience, but it was physically hard on my body. One bronze piece would take WEEKS to complete, and I spent many sleepless nights at my Uni's shop studio.

Oh man, let's see... Algebra 2 was rough for me, and I am (er, was) actually good at math. Most of the problem was the way the teacher taught it. Had the same problem with a few college math courses as well (linear algebra and probability classes.) Math can seriously suck with a bad teacher.

A few programming courses (comp sci major) were tough too. I struggled with Computer Networking, Graphics Programming, and AI (which was not LLMs 10 years ago when I graduated, for those with strong AI opinions.)

Advanced maths, with undiagnosed dyscalculia. Why was i in advanced maths? because i was good at doing advanced English, and the school seemed to think that if you were good at one thing, you were always equally good at something else completely unrelated.
As soon as i hit year 11 i dropped maths as quick as i could.

I’ve made decent headway into my environmental engineering degree but honestly? Calculus one. Took it first semester of college as a freshman with no trig background, no pre calc, nothing. Combine that with zero study habits because I coasted through highschool and undiagnosed ADHD… yeah recipe for disaster. I’m diagnosed and vaguely medicated now though so it’s better mostly

Any art class. It's the one time I simply cannot stomach authority figures at all and somehow it never ends well.

AP Chem because it was very confusing, though I dropped it and it became less confusing. Same with Algebra 2. Might be WHAP because there was a lot of writing and I had undiagnosed dysgraphia when I took it (the teacher was never able to read my handwriting.)

Though AP Physics 1 or AP Spanish 4 might take the cake, but I'm still taking them so idk. Might change in the future though.

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

-class grades were only based on exams which the professor gave no study guide
-literally everything on the slides was fair game, even a throwaway figure
-exams were hard af and had zero multiple choice. professor said 14% of the class getting an A made it “easy” (i got a 50 on said exam…)
-goes without saying but not really curved. 88 was an A which is barely a curve at all
-you got points off in the lab every time you went above 0.5% standard deviation. 1% was 5 points off for every data point

i think if i took it later i would do better but i focused on grinding for a more attainable A(organic chemistry, which i got!)

edit: some of the classes in this thread sound absolutely horrific(PCHEM III????) but i did well in biochem if you need help ^^ it was my favorite class of all time
