There were only a handful of individuals who would be glad for yet another weather disruption - more specifically, just one. Borge was really getting tired of lugging the heavy cargo around. It was a mild relief that they didn’t have to be careful with it, but it was no less exhausting, with how many more supplies they’ve had to add to it over the course of this trip.
Fortunately for them, but unfortunately for everyone else - the skies decided to reward them with another round of soft lavender rain, misting up the way forward and shrouding the now very visible peak in an almost mysterious fog. Sprinkles and Eternity both groaned in frustration - they were this close to making it! This mission had taken way longer than they wanted, and both dragons just wanted it to be over so they could go back and report their success, and probably pass out on their couch after a magnificent feast.
At the very least, Borge seemed to be infinitely thankful for the rainfall, flopping down in their tent, panting from exertion. They really had to ask the higher-ups for a weight-reducing spell in the future. For now, they couldn’t think of anything else except a well-deserved rest.
Rather, that is what their ideal situation would be - but this trip had a shockingly low amount of ideal situations to begin with, and this time was no exception.
Out of nowhere, a dragon burst through their door and started yelling. “We’ve been asking so many questions about where our friends have gone, and we never got that answered - all we were ever told was to wait. I’m done with this, I will find out what’s going on-”
Before the noisy complainer could make their way to the tent their cohosts were in, a beam of prismatic magic was fired, and the dragon went completely quiet after that. With another bright flash that temporarily illuminated the previously dim environment, the unconscious dragon was brought into the tent, where they were granted their wish - an early reunion with all the tourists that the hosts have so kindly “gotten rid” of by popular demand.
“Sorry, I couldn’t hold this one back,” Sprinkles apologized as they came in after a short while, shutting the door properly this time. “The other tourists warned me that this one was the… most talkative one.”
“Most annoying is what it is,” Eternity grumbled, but waving the situation off. “It’s fine, they were no trouble at all. You’re just in time for dinner.”
“... do you think we can make it tomorrow?” The hatchling asked after accepting a plate of slow-cooked fowl meat, not questioning the few colorful feathers on the ground.
“We have to,” The Spiral insisted, savoring the exotic flavor of the meat on his tongue. He made a mental note to go hunting for more when all of this was over. “We can’t let them delay us any longer. Starfall Celebration MUST be a success!”
“Yeah, hopefully,” Borge, having caught their breath, finally lumbered over to the table to grab their own plate. “I really do not want to have to carry these things around for another day or two.”
Sprinkles nodded in affirmation, grabbing the list of names again. They were almost there. They’ve crossed out almost every name, and the remaining ones were easy enough to deal with. Surely the last stretch of this climb would be smooth sailing… right?
As they finished their meals, all three dragons stepped outside the tent, gazing longingly at the empty skies overhead. The rain almost seemed like it was crying, weeping for the stars that were still nowhere to be seen.
“Very soon, Arcanist,” they chanted in unison. “We’ll bring forth your creations in no time.”

“We’re here!”
Every drowsy soul remaining in the group was instantly awakened by the sound of Sprinkles’ energetic announcement. The sky was clearing up - it was almost like they were right below the canvas that would soon allow for a spectacle to paint itself. At least, that was what they were promised when they were woken up early to resume the climb, egged on by endless encouragement from the tiny hatchling (and some good use of their big ol eyes).
Only the children remained unimpressed (what a surprise), but they at least felt content enough to entertain themselves by trotting around on their tiny legs and admiring the view from this high up. Eternity, who had been mostly annoyed throughout their whole journey, cracked a genuine smile as the group carefully set foot on their destination - the peak of the hill they’ve worked so hard to scale.
“Good job, guys! A round of applause!” Borge’s two heads declared in tandem, coaxing the remaining tourists to awkwardly, but somewhat genuinely clap for their achievement. It wasn’t easy getting here, that’s for sure. The Aberration was just glad they no longer had to drag this giant heavy sack while they walked anymore.
Now, it was time for the grand finale.
“In 5 minutes, you’ll witness the most beautiful, eye-opening occurence you’ll ever come across in your life,” Sprinkles began, their tone so romantic, so sincere that their cohosts almost believed them. “You’ll all realize why it was worth it to make this arduous journey.”
Eternity and Borge scuttled away into the background, magically setting up a tent to make their final preparations. The tourists didn’t seem to be bothered by the wait… except for one.
“Seriously?! You brought us up here, gave us the inspiring cliche speech and everything… only to ask us to wait?” The dragon in question stomped towards Sprinkles, towering over the hatchling - but the tiny pink dragon was unfazed. The tourist seemed to actually be an older fellow judging by their tone - a tone that was very, very tired and so very done.
"I'm done with your incompetence! You guys promised us stars but we've seen NONE of them these past few days! Stop lying to us and wasting our time-"
A blast of pink followed, and then silence - poof, just like that, the old archmage was gone. The rest of the tourists and Sprinkles collectively breathed a sigh of relief. They didn't want a competent magic user to be messing with their show, that's for sure. The hatchling gave them a bow before retreating into the tent to assist their cohosts.
In 5 minutes, as they promised, the three enigmatic Arcane dragons emerged from their hiding once again, rolling out a giant contraption that glimmered like the stars that should’ve been in the sky. Sprinkles was grinning, sitting at the top of the giant sparkly object, while Eternity started playing a victory tune on the trumpet, shadowing Borge who now held the pink, glittering wand that had assisted them in their journey all this while.
“LET THE SHOW BEGIN!”
The skies darkened in response.
