"Permission to enter?" Came a voice from outside the darkened nest.
"Granted." Chaira muttered as she sat curled around her mate.
Squinting her eyes at the harsh sunlight from the outside, she watched as wynten lurched in, his ghostly hind dragging slightly from exhaustion and illuminating the face of the dragon who followed.
"Blackrose! It's been so long!" Chaira said, perking up at the sight of the elder guardian. "What are you doing back?"
"Wynten sent for me." She said as she drew The imperial into a hug before breaking away and leaning forward toward the medical nest that Nightkaia laid in. "When I heard Nightkaia had fell ill, I made my way back as soon as I could. I just hoped my former apprentice had been exaggerating."
Wynten hissed indignantly, a huff of smoke indicating his disapproval of the insinuation.
"I would never. Not about something like this. I needed your expertise. As you can see," The bogsneak approached, pulling the arm of the sleeping mirror straight and gesturing to the bright green scales,"Her sickness has advanced far beyond anything I've been familiar with."
Blackrose stroked her claw across Nightkaia's scales. "What's happening to her?"
"I'm not even sure. This whole thing is completely foreign to me. All I know is that her scales keep changing color."
As if on cue, the mirror began to moan in pain, her tail lashing as her teeth grit in a grimace of agony, saliva dripping from between her fangs.
The healers stepped back, worried fascination crossing their faces. beside the Dragoness, Chaira tightened her body around her mate, pressing her snout gently to Nightkaia's cheek as the change began to take hold, Her groans turning to a pained roar as her scales slowly, painfully, turned colors. It took several agonizing minutes before the change finally came to an end, leaving the mirror exhausted and in completely different colors.
"It's not supposed to be this painful." Nightkaia muttered, her baggy and tired hind-eyes opening to scan the room. With a soft grunt, she slowly tried to clamber to her feet, clearly hoping to return to her lan outside of the den.
"Kai, you need to rest." Chaira cooed, resting her head on top of Nightkaia's, gently pushing her back down, her warm scales coaxing her into lying back down by her mate's side.
"I need to lead. I have a clan that relies on me and I'm letting them down, you know nothing of it, you don't lead this clan." She snarled back deliriously, weakly turning her head toward the Imperial.
"You're letting them down more by not letting yourself heal." Wynten interrupted, seeing the hurt on Chaira's face at the mirror's harsh words. "Take no heed Chaira, she doesn't know what she's saying."
Pulling a vial from under his wing, he uncorked the top and approached Nightkaia, reaching out to her with the potion inside.
"You know you need it." Wynten said as she hissed, narrowing her eyes at the mixture. "It's the only thing that's keeping you alive."
With slight Prodding from her mate, Nightkaia eventually gave in, tolerating the bitter medicine until it had drained completely from the vial. She coughed harshly, a couple drops of blood spraying onto the downy feathers of the nest, before resting her head back down.
"Chaira...Protect the clan when I'm gone. I trust you to keep my clan alive." she said solemnly, fixing Chaira with a bloodshot gaze.
"I won't need to. You have many long years left my love." Chaira responded softly, her voice wavering as the mirror's eyes drooped, her mate falling asleep soon after.
All thee dragons in the den looked at each other, Sharing a solemn silence before Wynten turned to Chaira.
"I need for you to leave. Blackrose needs catching up on the situation, and we need to reexamine now that she's changed again. Maybe Amatziel and Moon could use your help researching that portal spell they're looking for." He offered.
With a deep sigh and a final nuzzle to her partner, Chaira stood and moved past the healers, taking one last look back as the pair began to fuss over the pained leader before turning and disappearing out of the den.
OOh, very pretty! If I weren't doing this attached to a Locke, I might keep this, it's a super nice scatter. Ofc, I want this to go a touch longer than 2 days, and I also want to find a scatter that 100% speaks to me, with no question of "This is what I want my progen to be.". Lore!:
Urie snuck through the burned undergrowth, slipping through what little darkness there was following the scent of...something. It wasn't a scent of something he had ever smelled before, but it was intriguing nonetheless. Despite the light of the ever-burning scorched forest, Wynten had learned well how to hunt from the shadows that emerged between the criss-crossing foliage. Despite his love-hate relationship with his mentor and his heads, he deeply respected Koledo and would forever be grateful of the patient abberation's training. He snuck through the undergrowth, the scent getting stronger. His heart racing, he paused, his tongue flicking to taste the air. Looking up, he saw the owner of the scent, a bird, seemingly too large for the branch it was standing on, with feathers in a deeper black than seemingly possible. He tasted the air again, the scent was still foreign, almost alien in its indescribability. His muscles flexing, he launched upward, his wings and claws extending for the kill when the birds head turned, revealing an impossibly blurred, shadowy visage. In an instant, Urie was stuck with A startling vision of him and his cutchmate Vekrie being surrounded and overtaken by some shadowy monster.
Urie dropped to the ground with a startled grunt. Swiftly rising to his feet, he looked around frantically, but the bogsneak caught neither beak nor feather of the strange shadow bird. He shook his head, partially confused and disappointed. He was not meant to be out of the clan alone so early in his apprenticeship, and returning with nothing, He would never hear the end of it. His head drooping in defeat, he turned towards home, but stopped at the sight of a sizeable nightjar between his large legs. Confused, he sniffed it, Nightjar were not native to the Wastes, but when he smelled nothing strange about the creature, he picked it up in his jaws. His confidence restored in his unintentional kill, He made his way back to the camp, his mind still on his strange vision.

Urie clambered up from the damp ground, the teleportation into the gods realm completely disorienting him. He stood for a moment before he came more to his senses, the world around him becoming clear as his eyes adjusted. Their surroundings were dark, resembling a thick forest dripping with inky black sludge. This was the outer spirit world, the shadetouched realm where the exalted and dead would never wander in fear of the shade taking their unlife.
"Centuries upon Millenia ago," Moon's voice echoed in Urie's mind,"The Realm of the gods was endless. But the Shade was an ever present threat. Some of the exalted who've been present in their realm since almost the very day sornieth was born say that the shade was a fast foe, devouring the edges of their plane nearly quicker than the gods could stop it, especially when distracted with all of their infighting. Thankfully it's under control now, but some of the deepest history of the gods realm was lost to the Shade."
Urie reached up, touching a claw to the choker at his neck. When the three of them had been given this mission, Moon told them that these pendants were enchanted to keep them safe. Despite moon' words, He certainly didn't feel very safe among the oozing, pulsing blackness.
"Where's Vekrie?" Roseback said worriedly, breaking Urie out of his thoughts. Spinning around, He looked frantically for the grey scales of his clutchmate, not seeing her anywhere in the vicinity. His heart dropped, terror filling him at the thought of his sibling not having made it to the other side before he caught sight of a struggling mound of sludge, the smooth grey scales slowly breaking the surface nearly glowing in the darkness. He ran over, plunging a claw into the mud and dragging a coughing, spluttering Vekrie from the shade covered ground. Roseback ran over beside him, fussing over the nocturne, pushing Urie away. The bogsneak huffed slightly, Frustrated by Roseback's attitude. it had always annoyed him when it came to Vekrie since it seemed like all sense left the pink dragon when she was anywhere near his sibling, but he shook it off. Looking off into the darkened horizon, he refocused himself. There were more important things to worry about. Much more.

The three dragons walked side by side with eachother, careful to stay close amongst the shade-touched forest. their intrusion into the shade's territory had not gone unnoticed. Though their magically enchanted pendants protected them from being instantly absorbed into the ever-hungering shade, it didn't hide them, and Nightkaia's champions were unfortunately beset upon by corrupted beasts of shade around every corner. Some were easier to fight, mirroring beasts that resided on the mortal plain, but some were much more terrible, amalgamations of parts of dragons and animals long experienced a second death by it's terrible power, and others were pure avatars of the shade itself. each new encounter left the trio beaten and bruised, for they, despite all of Amatziel and Eria's training were barely a match against the eldritch singularity's attempts to snuff them out. Despite the Shade's attempts, they would remain steadfast, journeying for a single healing remedy that may not even exist, possibly having been consumed by the shade.
