TOPIC | Same Gender Breeding
And here I thought Flight rising players were a little more accepting of same sex relationships; instead we have everyone screaming about how "freaky" it is and not based in science or natural.

Disheartening to say the least but Im not surprised

Support. If some fish can switch gender on the fly, I certainly can see dragons doing so. To make it easier, It could only be done on unbred dragons. In this manner, we won't need to worry about where the dragon is placed when, or if it is bred in the lineages.

support! I enjoy breeding games a lot more when you don't have to worry about the sexes, besides lorewise dragon breeding is magical in this game, so what doesn't make sense is that that magical breeding can only happen between different sex pairs.
I highly doubt it will ever happen but I can dream

That doesn’t make it NOT make sense just because it requires a male and female pair. I also don’t support it mainly because I prefer breeding sims that run off the general realism of “opposite sex pairs for breeding”since it makes things so much simpler to make pairs. As much as I like PCE(where a pair being able to have beans is based on a more complex wind system), the breeding system is a bit of a pain for me since I usually forget what pairs are even compatible.

No support/conditional support from me.

On a purely mechanical basis, I think this would be the sort of thing that would be very hard to implement 11 years into the game. I might be completely wrong, of course! And if it were a simpler change then I wouldn’t be opposed. But honestly of all the things the FR coders could be working on this is one that’s pretty low on the list of things I’d be interested.

Apart from that - realism nothing. It’s magic dragons. The only reason it feels “odd” is because it wasn’t implemented from the start. But once the system was put in I doubt that implementing it now would be simple.

While I don't care about the realism aspect here (they're dragons, how realistic does it need to be, honestly) as far as gameplay goes, this is just unnecessary.

It's a breeding game and, frankly, as far as breeding games go this is far easier than most. There are very few random chances that can't be accounted for with more selective breeding, the last things being sex and some eye types. Everything else can be controlled to a degree with scrolls with the exception of generational gaps and Imperial scrolls.

Genes can be changed, most breeds can be changed to, eyes can be applied or removed in many cases and pose can be switched up to suit aesthetics.

Other games where breeding is a major feature are much more chance-based and much more difficult. Flight Rising is Easy Mode for breeding games (especially compared and contrasted with Wolvden and Lioden).

It's important to keep some things static and some aspects a real roll of the dice that can't just be altered after the fact, so no support on this.

I also agree with an earlier sentiment about it being far, far too late in the game (11 years!) to be bringing in something that nixes challenge rather than being a QOL improvement.

I def agree implimenting something like this should be a 'should've done this early on' I'm sure many of us remember how great the eyepocslypse went...

I do believe the staff has adressed it and said they'd have to rework the entire breeding system, (I could be wrong however) i feel an item would not solve this since one dragon would still have to be listed as mother/father or they'd have to code something entirely new for it to work, which given how long it's been since adventure mode has been announced, I much rather they focus on that tbh

It'd make having visually different poses moot, why have 'male' or 'female' dragons if you can just throw everything on one nest?

And I also agree with that one user who said it's pretty weird that same sex couples are only seen as 'family' if they have biological kids, plenty of cishet couples can't have biological kids either, just buy a hatchling and list in the bio they have two moms/dads/whatever you want

Dragons of any gender can breed together, as long as they're opposite sexes.

No support for same sex breeding for the reasons already mentioned by others above. (Needing a male and a female to produce offspring together is a basic gameplay rule for a breeding mechanic, and does not need to be changed.)

Disheartening to say the least but Im not surprised [/quote] I personally don't think the argument is about being against same-sex relationships - most players here are very tolerant of that. In a game where half of playing is a breeding mechanic, and doing this eliminates half the struggle. Additionally, if you were to eliminate it, might as well eliminate the generational barrier as well. In real life same-sex partners can't have children, but siblings and cousins regardless of the species can breed. Also I cannot tell you how often I have found the perfect mate for my dragon only for it to be related. So no, nobody is targeting anyone for the relationships they want to create with their dragons. If they want their m-m dragons to have a baby just adopt one or get a dragon with a silhouette scroll. No support

i would hope that people in here arent against this for homophobic reasons (which most seem to not be at least)

i would love to breed dragons of the same physical sex bc real world animal anatomy and biology does not apply here

i do understand the coding reasons tho. i wish there was an easier way to fix something like that but there probably isnt or the devs would have made same sex breeding a thing a while ago

i will always support ideas like this even tho they will most likely never happen bc flight rising was built with elmers glue and toothpicks
