It’s easy to miss - sitting in the middle of a dense, dark forest. There are many paths leading to and from the city, but only a few of those will actually take residents up to the city gates. The rest either lead to dead ends, or plough deeper into the forest, becoming more overgrown, twisted and root-choked the further one ventures down them. The city itself is nothing much to look at, perhaps. Strange growths, twisted vines and gnarled trees are very common. Ivy and other climbing plants swamp the walls of the rundown buildings, or send shoots in through broken windows. Birds nest on wide windowsills and small animals forage in the plentiful undergrowth. There is healthy plant life here as well, though. Those insects that feed on nectar are kept provided by the many species of flowers around. At first glance, Felhallow seems as though it might be abandoned. But take a closer look - many of the buildings seem to be in some state of repair. In some places it’s just canvas sacks stretched over gaps, or thick vines sealing holes in walls. However, it also looks as if bricks have been bought in, and used to patch up more severe damage. The repairs are rough and haphazard in some places, but they do well in keeping the rain out. The cobbled streets look fairly well maintained, with trees lining them. There’s even benches to sit on. Bunting provides a nice pop of colour overhead. The marketplace is full of tents. Mostly travelling merchants, though there’s a few set up all year round. The shops around the edge of the market display their wares in the windows. Various items are bought and sold here. The inhabitants deal in both imported and exported goods. The scent of food lingers in the air, mixing with the smell of spices and drinks in a way that confuses the senses. Most of the residents are permanent - though they will travel when the need arises. A few are wanderers, returning as and when they feel like it. Some vanish without warning - never to be seen again. It’s not clear what became of them. Overall the city welcomes both newcomers and visitors. The inhabitants are mostly Imperials and Skydancers, though there’s a few other breeds scattered here and there. The large number of Imperials in one place is interesting - if not slightly worrying. There’s obviously something about the city that attracts them, but no one’s quite sure what it is. Banner/shield by osiem This is my third attempt at starting a biolocke. This is my third attempt at starting a biolocke. Originally I stuck to following the rules on the original thread, but ended up becoming bored.

So - just going to do what I feel like now. Pinkerton’s gonna decide what that is, but that’s about it. Spent too long being stalled on lore - want to try and get started on it again.

Verdaunt - Annoyance

If Verdaunt weren’t so capable, Barra would have chucked him out of the clan years ago. The…good healer’s attitude irritates Barra to no end, and the two usually end up scowling at each other every time they meet. Or being so openly hostile that everyone else just wishes they’d stop already.

She’s still not used to it - even after 25 years. Though the ghosts hanging round Felhallow’s graveyard aren’t too bad. It’s a bit unnerving being watched all the time, but they’ve never actually made any attempt to harm her. Albion’s not quite sure why she started seeing ghosts all of a sudden, but she does know it started after she got trapped underneath a tree. That wasn’t entirely an accident - she wanted to save a hatchling who’d wandered a little too far from the nursery. Maybe it was the shock of the tree landing on her that caused it.

Lore —— Sage

She was alone. That much she knew. Newly hatched, and all she saw was the remains of smashed eggshells. No parents in sight. Just her and the nest, in a small clearing. The hatchling gazed round at the trees surrounding her and felt…well, she wasn’t sure what she felt. She didn’t have words for the emotions welling up inside her. Fear, loneliness - and something else as well. Something more primal - something that urged her to seek the cover of the trees.

But it was open here. The shadows scared her. They lurked on the edge of her vision, calling and beckoning. There were other things too, hiding within the forest. The hatchling could sense them, sense their hunger.

There was a smell, too.

It smacks of the fen-weed. She thought. And it was like the creeping fragrance of salt and sweet rot that told you that you’d taken the wrong turning, that the hungry bog was just one unwary step away…

She wasn’t quite sure what fen-weed was, nor why it had come to mind, but still that was the first thought she had.

She needed to move, to leave this place. But the sun was warm on her scales and butterflies flitted from flower to flower. She watched them, captivated by their flight patterns. By their colours. Her own scales were dull by comparison. No, not quite. There were patches of hard, glossy scales that shone a dark blue. She wondered if one of her parents had had the same affliction.

I helped you undo your curse, did I not? And, if I remember correctly, it certainly wasn’t a particularly simple one to deal with now, was it?” The Wildclaw shifted their weight, avoiding Unraveller’s gaze. The classic sign of a guilty conscience, Unraveller thought, fighting to keep the knowing smirk off her face. For every truly grateful client, there was always one who tried to fleece her. “Look,” the Wildclaw said. “It’s not that I don’t appreciate what you’ve done. It’s just…I think you’re asking too much.” “Too much? 200 gems is not much in the scheme of things. If anything, I should’ve asked for more. But, if you wish, I can always undo what I’ve done. I’m sure the aches and pains weren’t that bad after all. It might be quite nice living life as a tree.“ She spoke lightly, but Unraveller was starting to get a little bit annoyed. 200 gems really wasn’t a lot - she’d certainly asked for higher amounts from other clients. Usually those she helped paid the price without question. “No!” The Wildclaw shuddered, still not looking at her. “I-I don’t have the gems.” “You don’t have the gems? Did you ever have them, or was that a lie?” “A lie,” the Wildclaw whispered miserably. “I paid off some other debts I had with them. I’m sorry.” The petals falling around Unraveller seemed to swirl faster, as if caught in an errant breeze. She took a long, slow, deep breath. “Well now,” she drawled. “That’s a bit of a problem, isn’t it. I don’t do anything for free. Unless someone’s situation tugs at my heartstrings, and it’s been a very long time since that’s happened.” “However,” she continued, raising a hand, talons outspread. “I believe I’ve just come up with a…solution to this problem.” ——————————————————————————- Wynchwood forest wasn’t a particularly pretty place, Unraveller thought, glancing round at the unsightly growths on the trunk of the nearest tree, but it was a good place to ply her trade. Felhallow city too, come to that. The air was full of magic - she could feel the thrum of it. It wasn’t her main concern right now, however. “Kissen? Are you around?” “I’m here,” a soft voice replied. A pale Veilspun emerged from the foliage, hovering just within eye range. “Is the job finished?” “Oh, it’s done,” Unraveller said. “The client did try to talk their way out of paying me, however.” Kissen tilted her head slightly. “Did you get paid in the end?” Unraveller nodded. “I did, though not in the…usual manner, you could say.” She held up a small pouch and shook it, listening with pleasure to the gems jingling inside. “I do hope the client enjoys life as a fly. Even though it’s unlikely to be a long one.”
