Recently uncovered just west of the Hewn City digsite, a stone structure and its labyrinthine mass of tunnels twist and turn deep into the dark earth. Academic circles across Sornieth have made the trek to decipher the otherwordly symbols carved in its walls and study it's construction - but few have braved the unknown and explored its interior.

Meaning: There's an opportunity afoot.

A quick-witted scavenger like Lumi could surely find their way inside and make off with all the treasures of the maze in a flash - all they'll need is a trail of breadcrumbs to find the door again, easy peasy.

But nothing is ever that easy. Not every treasure can be stolen by hand - and not every door entered can become an exit.

A rollocke inspired by The Fortress of Ice by wonderwild, which i've been enjoying a lot!! Everyone should give it a read!

These rules are a homebrew amalgamation of a lot of different ideas, so i might end up changing certain things here and there as the game goes on. I like the simplicity of wonderwild's rollocke, but also the fear of imminent death that you get from a fodderlocke or a kingdomlocke...we'll see how it plays out

Roll a d100 daily. The value of the roll will determine that day's events, in accordance with the following roll table:

ROLL 100 - 80: Buy a new dragon.
I'm insane and want all the characters to have similar colors to each other; the color palette for this story is Blue and Brown, so each dragon must have a primarily Blue, Brown, or Blue and Brown palette when possible.

ROLL 79 - 60: 25 Coliseum matches.
Coli teams will be organized by me, with the location being equivalent to the team's highest level dragon. Matches do not need to be consecutive, items and health regen are allowed - but all deaths will result in exalt.

ROLL 59 - 40: Roll from the events table.
The events table is reskinned whole cloth from the fodderlocke/kingdomlocke event tables. I'm ignoring any event pertaining to nesting because I don't really want to nest any of the characters; the timeframe this takes place in just won't work for that storywise. You can find the fully expanded and explained table here.

ROLL 39 - 20: Art.
I've never commissioned anyone on here, so most likely all the art will be from me - it doesn't always have to be illustrations so I'm free to experiment if I want to, but I usually default to drawn illustrations anyway!

ROLL 19 - 9: Outfitting.
Adding battle items to dragons, dressing them up, geneing them, formatting their bios, giving them familiars, etc. Basically a little freebie and a chance to take it easy!

ROLL 8 - 2: Death Streak.
Coli teams will be organized at random, with the location being equivalent to the team's highest level dragon. No items, no health regen - the team will fight until two of them dies. The streak ends when one victor stands.

ROLL 1: Ultimate Death Streak.
Flip a coin for every participating dragon. Heads they live, tails they die.

Miscellaneous:
 • Every update will include written lore
 • My win conditions are: Either one (1) of my primary trio reaches level 25 OR I successfully write 30k words
 • Every time I miss a day, I have to buy a gypsum or a rosy gypsum from the AH. The amount of gypsums I've needed to buy over the course of the challenge will be displayed openly on the collections page

Kindly but stern, Giannis was a coatl who navigated the bustling scene of the dig with a seamless, aristocratic flare. The researchers they passed greeted him with noticeable esteem from their tents and workspaces - Giannis was an old friend, a mentor, and a king all rolled into one for those who'd made the dig their temporary home. Most of their eyes glazed right over Stavros, except for those who bumped into him while racing to and fro with papers and material in hand. He could feel his eye twitch in annoyance with every out of breath 'sorry'. "Your best bet would be to appeal to your own university," Giannis continued on, unaware, "From what I can see, the others don't have much reason to fund your project here. You're a bit of an 'unknown', as it were" Stavros laughed stiffly. "Yes, well. I'm only recently graduated, sir. I'll just need a little time for my team to really get to work - a little time and a little money. Any university could understand that," "Oh, they do, boy. Intimately," Giannis replied. Giannis' tent sprawled in comparison to the others surrounding it. It held not only a bed of carefully laundered linen and soft, colorful pillows, but also a wonderfully comfortable sitting area, amenities for cooking that far exceeded the common campfire affair, and a well-used mahogany desk covered in books and papers as its focal point. Giannis sat himself in his desk chair and gestured for Stavros to sit before him on a stool. He began rummaging through the piles of parchment, muttering to himself here and there. Stavros sat stock straight and held his head high, despite sitting significantly shorter than his colleague. "There are already several linguistic teams studying the available writing samples. You do understand this, yes?" Giannis asked, meeting Stavros' eyes. "Of course I do," Stavros replied, "Being here is a fantastic opportunity," Giannis stared for a moment before continuing. "These teams are made up of experienced researchers, graduates, apprentices, and all manner of dragons working together to learn everything we can about the culture that once existed here. Who, exactly, are you working with?" "Now sir," Stavros laughed, sweating under his collar, "There's no need to doubt us, especially so early on! I won't deny my camp's a little low on manpower-" "It's just you, Stavros," Giannis interrupted, his voice like a heavy cleaver. Stavros froze. "You don't have a team. It's just you here. And you have no prior field experience, no original finds, and no one to vouch for your work. Honestly, it seems to me that all you have are your father's contributions to your alma mater," "That's not fair," Stavros hissed through gritted teeth. "It's the truth," Giannis replied, "And I'm sorry, but if you'd like continued funding for your research here, your only option from where I'm standing is to request it from your university. I don't think there's anything I can do for just you, my friend - not without anyone to back you up," He leaned over his desk and began reading another collection of papers, mercifully signalling the end of the conversation. Stavros seethed and clenched his claws, a threat forming in the back of his throat - but he sat there for another moment and breathed. He told himself, Play it cool. Just keep playing it cool. And he rose and turned to leave, the tent door flapping behind him. It was square, blunt, and seemed to be made entirely of gritty bricks of sandstone. It sat at an angle; all you could see were its smooth roof, a few feet of wall on both sides, and (to the excitement of everyone) a similar few feet of open entrance at the front until the entire thing disappeared underground. It was very likely a system of writing, but one excitingly unfamiliar - each sample's angular, interconnected lines were starkly different from the better understood runes found across the continent and even among the artifacts found just a few miles east in the Hewn City. It would prove difficult to crack without finding some miraculous rosetta stone somewhere in the rubble, but the rush of new discovery was still overtaking each team that came to copy down the mysterious etchings.
