good lord this is a sad origin story! Something about this one hit hard - the new generation lacking, seemingly (to their parents who didn't probably see Bounty of the Elements at all) completely arbitrarily, cannot communicate with them, and are completely outside of their normal cycles of time. It's horrifying! (Just to be clear, I don't mean that in a bad way; the Banescale origin story was also utterly horrifying, and I loved that too.) Not only the sheer terror of their parents and elders, but also the creeping realization that if they can't figure out how to fix it - either by allowing other dragons or their hatchlings back into the Loop, or by finding a way to communicate outside, somehow - their entire culture will be lost after their generation. An existential nightmare of a story for an Ancient breed. I love it.
