I'm in Chrome, and the sound for Tidal Trouble plays automatically, even when the mute button is pushed. The volume slider does nothing for it.
Additionally, when the game is un-muted, there's an echo. Muting the game mutes only the echo.

I was not having this issue yesterday, but am having it today. I'm in firefox.

Does it go away when you refresh the page or close and reopen the browser? Also I recommend trying a "hard refresh" (ctrl+f5).

It doesn't go away when doing either of those.
However, it does go away after a few minutes on its own. I still haven't figured out how or why.

I was able to make the volume controls behave correctly by first "unmuting" the game, then remuting it, then opening the volume control panel on my computer

Happens to me too, mostly on my Mac. Sometimes it will turn off after about a minute. sometimes.
