This is Sal! He doesn’t look like much but he’s honestly my favorite dragon. My friend also wrote him an amazing poem a few years ago!
He was teaching some hatchings to hunt one day, one was goofing off and almost ran into a tree. Sal dove down and pushed the hatchling out of the way but he broke his own wing in the process. He was sent to live with the lonely and eccentric healer, Leonardo, and while he was healing they fell in love.

In the forested land of Vaher,
Lives the kind and protective Hunter heir.
Providing for his friends and kin,
He brings back enough to overflow the bin.
Though he does this only to give,
Only to help, to aid, to live.
He travels the wooded and prosperous plain,
Navigating this tall, twisting terrain.
Stay too long, and your thoughts shall bind,
To those of the untrained mind.
Take a wrong turn, and lost you will be,
But with Sal, through this he’ll see.
And to his side, His bow is bound,
Reminding him of the old training ground.
With those friends he learned to fly,
And with his big wings, he propells into sky.
And with them he’ll hunt deer and boar,
And with them, Protect those others from sore.
This protector of the hunt who brings forth aid,
Set flight aside, a price he paid.
To save another from the pain of breaking,
He sacrificed his wings, now aching.
But seeing their friend in great struggle,
Their brains clashed, they began to huddle.
A thought from one lead them to Leonardo,
A doctor’s wrath, he’d undergo.
But through quick time, the hunter was back on his feet,
And to that healer, he gives friendlier greet,
And his clan thanked him for his deed with loud word,
That day he received an amusing bird.
To this day that bird hunts by his side,
With its cocky but fair pride,
It is the companion of this dragon of tide,
Who keeps these walls of food fortified,
His rules of assistance, Sal will also abide,
For if anyone is ever in trouble, he’ll never hide.
