This includes historical documents, as well as records of the vast number of prophecies and divinations that the clan produces. She's a bit stern, and will chastise young dragons who borrow scrolls and return them with creases, smudges, or food remnants, but she's keen about her job and loves helping others find the information they seek. For this reason, she's excellent in her other role as head of the clan's Researchers' Guild. Her repertoire is fairly evenly split between historical tales and stories of her own invention, and she performs each one not just using her voice, but her whole body, as well as costumes and props where she can. She takes pride in her craft, and has a fierce professional rivalry with Nisaba. The two constantly argue about the merits of written versus oral chronicles, but they also push each other to improve and innovate in their respective fields. Though some of Eta's work falls under the category of research, she is one of the heads of the clan's Artisans' Guild, perhaps because she and Nisaba have a hard time collaborating. Or just plain agreeing. On anything. To her, this entails talking to dragons and learning about them, about the way they see Sornieth, about the way they see other dragons. Getting inside their scales as much as possible, and capturing as much of their essence as possible, from the way they flick their tail to how they dislike shrimp, in her works. Malakai chronicles the lives of every dragon who passes through the clan, so that if someone leaves, to serve the Tidelord or just for a change of scenery, she can help preserve their memory for those who have been left behind. Her work is extremely personal by nature, and while it has elements of both research and artistry, she herself is a member of the Service Guild - and while neither is quite willing to admit it, both Eta and Nisaba admire Malakai and her work for accomplishing something that theirs cannot.
