She waited a moment, watching as the Fae continued to busy herself with piling the books, unaware of her visitor. She coughed into her claw, startling Rainflow out of her thoughts. The Fae whipped around in surprise, but sighed in relief at the sight of the other dragon. "Moon! Don't sneak up on me like that!" The Fae's laughter was considered an odd sound, as Fae don't usually laugh."Is there something you need, old friend?" Moonlitnight nodded a moment. "My Queen," she began, her silky voice rasping slightly, "We must discuss the current situation, and what must be done." Rainflow's face fell. She sat down with a sorrowful sigh. "I know we do. It's just, so much has happened, with the disaster and..." She sniffled a moment. "Have you some direction?" The seer nodded. "My gifts have not been clouded, despite the recent disasters. I may have a solution for our clan's problems, but first I must ask: What has Goddess Mythosiana to say?" Taken aback slightly, the Fae's claw went to what seemed to be a copy of Tales of Terror near her. She sighed. "Not much, unfortunately. She has been quiet of late, which leads me to believe the recent events in Sornieth have weakened Her connection to this realm." Moonlit nodded, seeming unsurprised by the news. "As I thought. This leads me to my solution: we must get on with creating her temporal form." "Her temporal form? With the magic around Sornieth gone haywire?" Rainflow flared her fins anxiously. They'd been working to the goal of their Goddess's mortal body being created for some time, but that had been when everything was normal. "Are you sure?" The Imperial nodded her head. "We can take advantage of the influx of magic, using it to create a body more powerful than we could have previously. With her having a form in this existence, she can give us much clearer guidance." Biting her lip, Rainflow thought over this. "I suppose you have a point. How should we go about this?" "It begins with you, my Queen. You and the King." The oracle's blank eyes seemed to stare through time at the future. "I will take the hatchlings and oversee their growth. You needn't worry much more over this." The Queen's eyes widened a moment, but she sighed, nodding. "The sooner our Goddess is with us the better." The book under her claw seemed to tremble in agreement.
Hey guys!
Moonlitnight strode in front of the five siblings, now grown adults. Each showed promise and strength. However, only one would be chosen as the heir of the lineage. It had to be the strongest one. "The time has come, young ones." Her blank stare pierced each of the Guardians. "The heir must be chosen. One must stand above the rest." In response, the five shifted uncomfortably. Ignoring their apprehension, the Imperial stepped aside, sweeping a wing in the direction of the forest. "Enter, and prove your worth." They filed off, oldest to youngest. Summer stepped forward first. She was nervous and unsure of what would become of her, but she walked on nonetheless. Perhaps after they did this they could all relax together. Yes, that would be nice. Eve came next. So many questions filled her mind, but she forced herself to focus on the task at hand. However, the nagging question of what determined who was greatest still bothered her. Third came Lachlan. Unlike his sisters, he had little of the reasons behind this course on his mind. A clear goal was set, and nothing else seemed to matter at the moment. Begrudgingly following, Cassandra shot a wary, almost accusatory glance towards the dark Imperial. She was very sure this would not end well for the siblings. However, none of them seemed to really belive her. She herself had begun to wonder if they were really visions she was having or simply dreams. Lastly came Jensen, nervously following his siblings. He didn't like the look of the shaded trees, nor did he like the sound of 'proving his worth'. Everyone else, however, was going, so on he followed. They split off in different directions, each hoping to be the last one standing. [rule] Summer stumbled on. The last encounter with the beasts had been particularly tiring. She wasn't sure how much longer she could go on. A great shadow loomed over her. Looking up in fearful surprise, she only slightly relaxed at the familiar sight of Moonlit. "Come, it is time to return," she called to Summer, and swooped away in the sky. Forcing herself to take flight, the red Guardian followed. Aching wings carried her over the trees and to the clearing they called home. Gasping, she finally landed on the grass, her knees nearly buckling on impact. They did not give, however, and she stayed on her feet. The seer stood in front of her, waiting for her to catch her breath. "You are strong," she murmured, her mouth a rare smile. "A perfect heiress." Summer looked up in surprise. "Me? I'm the one?" A thought dawned on her, and she looked around anxiously. "Wait, where are-" Moonlit cut her off. "Go and attend to yourself. I will explain to you your future later, once you have rested." Without another word, she took flight, leaving Summer alone with her thoughts. The Guardian sighed, and dragged her feet as she trudged off in the direction of their infirmary. She pondered apprehensively the question she had been unable to ask the dragon: Where were her siblings? Her chest seemed to grow heavy at the thought, her heart sinking horribly. They're okay, she thought. She'd see them later. They were just elsewhere, maybe on their way back now. They would be fine. They had to be. [rule] Moonlitnight soared into a cave, folding her wings neatly behind her as she landed. It was dark, save for the gleaming lights hung along the way. She continued forward, deep into it's dark depths. The sound of dripping water echoed throughout the winding tunnels. Finally, she came to a chamber hung with several strange objects and lit by electrical and magical lights alike. Several large forms were slumped in the center of a runic circle. The four siblings were all unconcious, unable to withstand the harsh blows of the beasts they encounter. Two other dragons stood waiting, and nodded to the dark seer as she entered. The first was a Skydancer, her red clothes offsetting her white and dark blue feathers. The second was a Guardian with dark skin that seemed to ripple like water in some places. Lyra spoke first. "Ah, Moonlit! You're here at last. How is our heiress?" The seer smiled slightly. "She is well. Tired, yes, but she stayed strong throughout the trial. Even when bruised and battered, she was able to fly herself back. Summer is the perfect canidate." The Skydancer nodded in approval. "Good! Did you catch that Levi?" The Guardian dipped her head in acknowledgement. "Summer... the eldest of the nest." She wrote it down on a rock, the letters glowing as she scratched her claw across the surface. "So then," Lyra said, "Are we ready for the ritual? They may wake soon if we do not hurry." Moonlitnight nodded. "Yes, we must begin immediately." The three spread out, forming a triangle around the circle. Moonlitnight flicked a switch, and machinery began to hum. Lighting crackled along wires in the floor, lighting up the lines on the floor. She began chanting incantations, electricity sparking at her own mouth. Levi rumbled, then began murmuring her own rites. Her low voice almost hummed as she recited words of an ancient dialect. Water flowed from her claws, forming more lines and runes on the floor around the four unconcious dragons. Lyra began to sing, stepping and swaying to the rythym of the chanting. Arcane magic swirled around her, and the final markings on the floor gleamed with its energy. Moonlit flicked another switch, and four canisters opened. The chanting and singing grew in volume, and the markings on the floor glowed. Trails of peculiar light began to stream from each of the Guardians on the floor, each pooling in one of the canisters. The streams flowed with greater intensity as the ritual went on. Then they began to slow to a miniscule trickle. With another flick of a switch, the canisters closed. The chanting and song ceased, and the other two looked to the Imperial. "It was successful." She traced a claw over the glowing vessels, energy swirling within them. "All but a bit of their magic has drained, the last amount left for their survival." She gestured to the pile of dragons in the center. "Take them to the Exaltation Block." With a nod, Levi began to move the Guardians onto a cart to be taken away to service to the Tidelord. Lyra landed on the Imperial's shoulder. "How will you pass on the magic?" She asked, eyeing the canisters. "I will give a small dose to the heiress before her nest," she answered. "Much of it will be distributed on and around the eggs as they incubate. The final amount will be administered directly to Mythosiana when she arrives.' The mage nodded thoughtfully. "Speaking of nest..." she looked at the Imperial, her unspoken question obvious. "I have already found a male. He has likely already met the heiress by now. It would be beneficial for them to get along." Lyra nodded, seemingly satisfied. "For the goddess."
Whew! That was a lot of writing! Anyway so that's that. I automatically kind of disqualified Jensen due to that Ghost gene, since I want to work my way up bit by bit. They split off in different directions, each hoping to be the last one standing.

Summer stumbled on.

Moonlitnight nodded at each of the three dragons before her. "You will prove yourselves today. One of you will take their place as the heir."

Darryl looked up timidly. "What about those who don't?"

It was a warm day, but the shuddering motion had little to do with cold. Nytus's eyes swept down to her, concerned. "You okay, love?" He murmured quietly, bringing his head down to nuzzle her gently. Aleeza was grateful for that. Despite their rather unceremonious meeting and encouraged courtship, he well and truly loved her. For that, she could not help but love them back. "Of course," she replied, flapping her wings and fins gently to express her joy. It was a partially true statement; the time with Nytus and their children had been one of happiness. Her family and their contentment was everything to her. Which was why she never told her mate about her siblings. How she had loved them. How they'd played together on these same grasses. How one day they'd all gone into the forest and they never came back. She hoped they'd never need to know, that they could stay this way forever. However, something deep within her told her this wouldn't last. She shook the thought away, smiling up at her mate. "I'm good. We're good. Everything will be fine." He gestured to the plate, filled with an assortment of food. Summer looked away. "I'm not hungry." How could she stomach anything after having lost so much? Despite his fatigue, Gidget flapped up to land on her shoulder. "I know you are grieving. I am too. However, that is not a good reason to starve yourself." It appears Summer has gone into a state of deep depression. What do you intend to do with her, now that her role is done?" Moonlit mused for a moment. "I have though about it in depth. I think it would be best if... the parents continued to delve into the forest." After a questioning look from the Skydancer, she went on. "Not a full trial, no. But daily excursions into the woodland, perhaps. If one of them collapses..." She gave a meaningful look to the mage below her. Understanding flitted across Lyra's features. "When should we begin with that?" Turning her head, the dark seer considered once more the family sleeping in the sun. "As soon as the heir has been chosen."
What's this? "Summer. Please get up."

The Guardian slowly lifted her head. It was the most movement she'd done in hours, and her neck ached from being stationary for so long. Blinking, her deep blue eyes met concerned orange ones.

Gidget gently set down a plate bigger than him, which he'd been levitating in the air. He let put a sigh of relief, clearly having strained himself using his magic. "You need to eat." He gestured to the plate, filled with an assortment of food.
