Venom - Chemist
"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot.”
- Albert Einstein
Once, there was a dragon named Venom.
He was an odd one, constantly pouring over his cauldron while his brothers poured over books of legendary knights. While they were gallivanting in the swamps and forests, playing hide and contaminate, he was carefully perusing the rich amount of herbs that The Tangled Wood has to offer.
His parents took note of his interest and his skill. Not only did he love concocting his potions, he was good at it. They went to their leader, who, in turn, appointed Venom head chemist.
As time wore on, the kindly old Bogsneak Baldwin took notice of him. He heard of the renown surrounding his most popular brew, the truth serum. He made his way to Venom's clan and asked if the young Spiral would like to apprentice under him. Excitedly, Venom agreed.
Back when he was a child, Venom wasn't bad. He was actually a friendly lad, smiling with joy as he presented his potions to his parents. He would squirm in embarrassment as they complimented him. He would nod seriously when they gave him tips.
But as Baldwin taught him things that he had never known... he began to get a taste for the deadliest of all brews. The one that consumes those who merely hear of its greatness. Power.
Venom saw how Baldwin skirted around the true mixes. The ones that could slay the greatest Emperor with a tiny drop. He noticed that, during his long ramblings, as per Baldwin fashion, he would suddenly stop and shake his head.
He began to test the limits that Baldwin had silently placed. He pushed when the old chemist. dropped a topic, asked when he knew that all he wanted was silence. Finally, the Bogsneak did something about it.
"Enough!" He shouted one day after Venom blatantly asked how to make a deadly poison. "You... you are forbidden to make any dangerous potions! Or ask of them!" The chemist jabbed a claw shaking with anger in his direction. "You hear me?"
Shocked by the seemingly gentle dragon, all Venom could do was nod in shock.
But things change. The memory of a furious Baldwin faded, and Venom gathered the courage to test his limits once more. He was greedy for knowledge; he craved it. It niggled at the edge of his conscience, how undeniably powerless he was without his own cauldron.
o he confronted Baldwin about it. All that it created was an angry and disappointed Baldwin and a master-less Venom.
Without Baldwin's guidance, Venom had nothing. His clan had long since forgotten him, appointing an honest chemist to lead that industry, and it seemed no one wanted a reject apprentice. Venom was just starting to grow sorry for his actions, almost ready to turn tail and apologize to Baldwin.
Finally, after wandering for oh-so-long, Venom came across a dragon named Jack and his mate, Jill. Jill, who was a leader of a great clan which took residence on a big brig called "The Plagued Rose", let Venom do what he wanted. The only restriction was that it absolutely had to directly benefit her clan.
Finally, Venom had what he wanted. Free-reign, and, more importantly, power. Anytime anyone asked him for something, he reveled in the knowledge that he had control over what he gave them. He didn't have to give the young dragon a potion that will cure his mother's headache. Instead, he could give him a small vial of deadly toxins...
Fortunately, Venom has never done such a thing. Every time someone ends up with the wrong order, it's an honest mistake.
Of course, as his potions once again became popular, dragons were drawn to him like flies to honey.
One day, he was surprised to discover a Pearlcatcher at his door, begging to be his apprentice. He was even more surprised to discover a Wildclaw who volunteered to be his test dummy. Of course, a test dummy meant that he could practice potions before dispersing them, and an apprentice meant power over another dragon. So he accepted both of their requests.
And Venom remains on board " The Plagued Rose" to this day, living with his apprentice-turned-mate and creating potions to be feared and revered all over Sornieth.

Vial - Chemist
"If you cheat, may you cheat death"
- Sláinte Gaelach
No one understood Vial. Not her mother, not her father, and especially not her two annoying brothers. Everyone was absolutely, indisputably clueless.
As a child, Vial felt no joy in anything but staring at her reflection. And even then, all she could see was her face decades of years into the future, sagging and blemished with liver spots and wrinkles.
When other children chased each other around, Vial chased her thoughts of ugliness around. When they cried over boo-boos, she cried over the inevitable fact that she would one day grow old and ugly. When they threw a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted, she threw a tantrum because her parents didn't understand her...They never would.
She became reclusive, keeping to herself and exploring ways to make herself more beautiful. She went into cosmetics and was actually happy for awhile. She was drop-dead gorgeous with her heavy layers of makeup, and many dragons complimented her on it. She began to feel joy and started making friends.
But, one day, as she was excitedly flitting around her clan, she stumbled upon an elder wearing makeup. All of it was clumsily applied, but no amount of cosmetics could hide the saggy jowls or craggy wrinkles. With a gasp, she turned tail and fled.
Vial decided that something as transient as makeup would not do. It had to be something permanent, that would not just cover up ugliness, but make her beautiful... forever.
That's when she discovered chemistry.
She decided that this was something she wanted to invest in. Who knows, maybe she could find a potion that would keep her eternally beautiful. And if all else failed, she could sell her tinctures for money to buy makeup.
She searched for a master, someone to take her in and train her in the art, but all of them were too wise to be fooled by her simple story of, "I've always loved chemistry," or "I've wanted to be a chemist since I was a child." Each one turned her down, telling her to come back once she truly grew an appreciation for the art, one that went beyond loving its merits.
Just when she thought that she could no longer say anything but "Could you teach me chemistry?", she caught wind of a dragon in a Plague clan that was a chemist, one who was normally classified as crazy. When she heard that, Vial perked up. Everyone who was sane turned her down. Maybe she had a chance with an insane dragon instead.
She made a quick, two days travel to the clan, and met with the dragon. He was, in his own strange way, strikingly handsome. Vial, never one for anything that is more than skin deep, fell in love at once and begged to be his apprentice. He agreed joyfully, in a strangely maniacal way.
As time wore on, they became official mates and a dragon named Gin became their test dummy. They work together, with Vial pursuing her goal of finding a beauty tincture while assisting her mentor in every way possible. As time wears on, Vial takes one step closer to her potion for eternal beauty and outstrips her master in his own field just a little more.
