Sorry- I've posted this before but I can't find it. =/ Hey! So I know a lot of this info can be found in the stickied notes at the top of the forum, but I've had quite a few people message me with questions so I thought I'd copy down a few things I've mentioned to newbies over the last few months. Find out how to make treasure, to adopt and trade dragons, to train and breed them, to get Dominance, and to play in the Coliseum. @AngelaMyrna @DarkDragonwolf @OBNIXOLIS Terms: (added some from Mizamazu) RTT= Ready to Train refers to adult dragons RTB= Ready to Breed H= Hatchling EXD= Exalted Cryface= Crystal primary gene/ Facet secondary gene Irishim= Iridescent primary gene/Shimmer secondary gene xxy/xyx/yxx= The "x" refers to the same color. For example, an xxy dragon will have the same color for its primary and secondary genes and a different one for its tertiary gene. (See breeding below) AH= Auction House CR= Crossroads WC= Wildclaw breed PC= Pearlcatcher breed Part I: TREASURE AND DOMINANCE There are two types of currency: treasure and gems. The exchange rate is about 1 gem: 650 treasure. I am going to speak only about treasure, the main currency. How to make Treasure: 1. Visit your familiars every day to get treasure and chests. To get cheap familiars, go into the Auction House under Shop, select Familiars, put "1" in the Price Range slot next to coin (so you'll only see familiars being sold for treasure), hit "Search", then, next to "Sort By" near the top, select "Price" (instead of Expiration). This will show you the cheapest familiars that are up for sale. There should always be some for under 4,000. You also get familiars by playing in the Coliseum and you can see which ones you get from each level here. Very rarely you will also find them by digging. 2. Play in the Fairgrounds (I prefer the Coliseum but this is a great starting point). Shockswitch and Artifracture give you the most treasure for your time, but see if you like the other games better. My favorite thing though is Higher/Lower, because it resets at the top of every hour and takes like a minute to do. Even if you only get half of them right, that's 650 treasure and it adds up. 3. Visit Pinkerton's Plundering Pile in the Trading Post for one free item each day. (This one's kinda obvious but thought I'd share anyway) 4. Visit Crim's Swap Stand in the Trading Post, which also resets at the top of every hour. Not all of her trades are good trades, so check the Auction House if you're not sure. She might offer you 500 for something that you could sell on the AH for a lot more. You won't have a lot of stuff in the beginning, but you'll get there. 5. Visit Tomo's Trivia every day and you can find the answers to her questions. 6. When your Flight achieves Dominance, go to the Marketplace and take advantage of the discounts. You'll make a ton of money just by buying and selling stuff on the Auction House. (More about Dominance below.) 7. Take advantage of Dom raffles! (See my section below on Raffles) 8. Sell cheap dragons. You can sell them on the Auction House by going to the dragon's page and selecting Auction on the top right. If you wait until they're grown, you can also sell it to trainers in your flight forums typically for 7-8kT. 9. Go to the Adoptions page if you haven't already to get lovely breeding dragons. Keep in mind you are not to resell or exalt these dragons! Or at least not until you've had them for a while. 10. Use the dragon trading thread to trade your fodder for nicer dragons. As a player with a lot of pretties and not a lot of fodder, I am often the person going yay! I got an ugly one! So it's fine. 11. Gather items every day. Once you have enough food, make sure to Scavenge and Dig every day. With Scavenge, you might get an unhatched egg worth quite a lot of moolah. 12. Convert cheap food, apparel, and materials into goo at Baldwin's Bubbling Brew in the Trading Post. Either keep it to make more stuff or sell it. 13. Play in the Coliseum, which leads me to... Playing in the Coliseum 1. The Coliseum is the only way to level your dragons. The highest level is 25. I'm not the best at explaining this process so see my favorite guide for more information. (thank you culex for being awesome) Click here for my guide to beating the Coliseum with two level 25s! 2. Borrow higher-level dragons in order to level your own. Basically just make a post with the title "Newbie needing lvl 23-25" and someone will come along with a dragon you can borrow. Emphasis on BORROW. Do NOT make permanent changes to these dragons without permission!! (I have several level 25s I can lend, as well.) 3. The Mire Flyer build is awesome for leveling fodder but that's for another time. Striving for Dominance: There is a good explanation of dominance at the top of the Forum but I'll summarize here: Within the context of the game, you are sending a dragon to serve the patron deity of your respective flight to fight against the Shade and the Beast Clans. (Go look that up if you're interested.) What it means to you is that you take the dragon completely out of the game. That dragon is no longer in your lair. You cannot get it back. You can no longer breed it, etc. So, choose dragons you don't care about. But the nice thing is you get a little treasure for it. The higher the level of the dragon, the more you get. (Remember, the only way to level a dragon is to go to the Coliseum. I would recommend going for at least level 3 in the beginning, and level 6 later on.) To exalt a dragon, go to its page, remove all familiars, apparel, and skins and click Exalt to the top right next to Auction. Whichever flight exalts the highest percentage of dragons for that week, they achieve Dominance for the next week and get sweet perks. See Dominance under Play to see who's winning!! Basically, the three flights with the highest average of exalts per player get these benefits for the following week. First place gets: 15% off Marketplace Treasure items, 5% off lair expansions, +1500 treasure each day, and 3 extra gathering turns per day. Second place gets: 7% off Marketplace Treasure items, 1% off lair expansions, +750 treasure each day, and 2 extra gathering turns per day. Third place gets: +375 treasure each day and 1 extra gathering turn per day The biggest perk is the discount in the Marketplace. Buy a bunch of stuff and sell it for a profit in the Auction House. I've made a million treasure in a week doing that. You've gotta have coin to make coin, though. Raffles: So, this one will also be a bit difficult for a little while. Basically, go under the Forums page, select Raffles and look for one that says [DOM] in front of it. When a Flight pushes for dominance, there are two things they might do: host a Public Buy and/or a Raffle with some awesome prizes. You can't go wrong with either of these. Basically, the Flight wants fodder ie cheap dragons you don't want to breed or keep and they will give you money and raffle tickets for it! Have patience. Once you get a higher level dragon, leveling fodder will be a lot easier, and then you can exalt and sell a lot more. For more help, see these awesome programs: Mentor Program & the Family Flyers Part II is below.

Part I: TREASURE AND DOMINANCE

There are two types of currency: treasure and gems. The exchange rate is about 1 gem: 650 treasure. I am going to speak only about treasure, the main currency.

How to make Treasure:

(More about Dominance below.)

7. Take advantage of Dom raffles! (See my section below on Raffles)

Playing in the Coliseum
1. The Coliseum is the only way to level your dragons. The highest level is 25. I'm not the best at explaining this process so see my favorite guide for more information. (thank you culex for being awesome)
Click here for my guide to beating the Coliseum with two level 25s!

2. Borrow higher-level dragons in order to level your own. Basically just make a post with the title "Newbie needing lvl 23-25" and someone will come along with a dragon you can borrow. Emphasis on BORROW. Do NOT make permanent changes to these dragons without permission!! (I have several level 25s I can lend, as well.)

3. The Mire Flyer build is awesome for leveling fodder but that's for another time.

Striving for Dominance:
There is a good explanation of dominance at the top of the Forum but I'll summarize here: Within the context of the game, you are sending a dragon to serve the patron deity of your respective flight to fight against the Shade and the Beast Clans. (Go look that up if you're interested.)

To exalt a dragon, go to its page, remove all familiars, apparel, and skins and click Exalt to the top right next to Auction.

Whichever flight exalts the highest percentage of dragons for that week, they achieve Dominance for the next week and get sweet perks. See Dominance under Play to see who's winning!!

Part II: All things Dragons! So, the best place to start your clan is by adopting donated dragons. I mentioned this above and want to reiterate the rules. These dragons are not to be adopted and then immediately resold or exalted just so you can make a quick profit. It's pretty taboo. These are meant to be breeding dragons that you should keep, at least for a while. Crossroad Exchanges On the left side bar under "Shop", you will see Crossroads, often abbreviated CR. This is where you trade items, dragons, treasure, and gems with another player. There are two types of trades: one-way trades and two-way trades. You use one-way trades when you are sending something to another player and expecting nothing in return. It is simply a gift. A two-way trade, as you can probably guess, is for when you are sending X to another player and expecting Y in return. Say, for example, that you are selling a dragon to another player for 8,000 treasure. You add your dragon and send the request to the other player; that player will add the 8000 treasure to their side of the trade; and then you will accept the final trade. It's a bit slower of a process but it allows both parties to get what they want. Buying Dragons This is pretty straightforward. Go to the Auction House and use the selection criteria to browse or find the ideal dragon. You can get sucked in and browse forever... Types of Genes There are three types of genes: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary. Primary refers to the gene of the main body of the dragon. Secondary refers to the gene of the wings of the dragon. Tertiary refers to the spines or patterns you see over the dragon. For example: Poseidon's primary gene is Cherub, his secondary gene is Facet, and his tert gene is Glimmer Breeding: Colors I chose Poseidon above for another reason. His primary color is Splash, his secondary color is Splash, and his tertiary gene is Green. He is an XXY dragon because both primary and secondary colors are the same. He is Splash/Splash/Green or XXY. This was because his parents' colors were Blue/Blue/Green and Sky/Sky/Avocado (Okay, the fact that they're all XXY is weird but run with me here.) This is the Flight Rising Color Wheel. Take the shortest distance between the parents colors (Blue to Sky, for example) and you will see the potential colors of their offspring. Splash falls between Blue and Sky, and that is why Poseidon is that color. Here is another nifty tool for seeing how your offspring will look. Breeding: Species Play around with the different genes using the Scrying Workshop underneath Library on the left bar. Here you can see what a hatchling will look like as an adult or what a dragon will look like with different genes, and even see the potential combinations of their offspring. What you will notice immediately is that not all potential offspring combinations are 50/50. What I mean by that is... Some species are rarer than others Here is how it is broken down from LEAST rare to MOST rare. Plentiful: Tundra, Guardian, Fae, Mirror (Breeding Cooldown is 15 days) Common: Pearlcatcher, Ridgeback, Spiral, Snapper (Breeding Cooldown is 20 days) Uncommon: Skydancer (Breeding Cooldown is 25 days) Limited: Imperials and Nocturnes (Breeding Cooldown is 30 days) Rare: Wildclaws and Coatls (Breeding Cooldown is 35 days) If you breed dragons of different species but their species are in the same category, then the odds of a hatchling being one or the other is even. For example, if you breed a guardian and a fae- both 'plentiful' breeds- the chance of a hatchling being a guardian is 50/50. HOWEVER, if you nest a "plentiful" breed (tundra) with a "limited" breed (imp), you are more likely to have "plentiful" babies. Breeding: Genes Some genes are rarer than others Likewise, offspring are more likely to inherit some genes over others Plentiful: Basic Common Primary Genes: Clown, Piebald, Speckle, Tiger Common Secondary Genes: Current, Daub, Freckle, Eye Spots, Paint, Peregrine, Stripes Common Tertiary Genes: Thylacine, Underbelly, Contour Uncommon Primary Genes: Bar, Cherub, Giraffe, Ripple, Vipera Uncommon Secondary Genes: Hex, Hypnotic, Seraph Uncommon Tertiary Genes: Crackle, Okapi, Smoke Limited Primary Genes: Poison Limited Secondary Genes: Toxin Limited Tertiary Genes: Gembond, Spines Rare Primary Genes: Crystal, Iridescent, Petals Rare Secondary Genes: Butterfly, Facet, Shimmer Rare Tertiary Genes: Circuit, Glimmer, Stained Even though Poison (primary gene) and Toxic (secondary gene) are among the newer genes, they are 'less rare' than Crystal (prim) and Facet (sec). This is good news for Poitox fans XD The Okapi tert gene, meanwhile, is 'less rare' than Spines. Hence, in the example below, 3 of the 4 offspring have Toxic. 3 of the 4 have Poison. And 3 of the 4 have Okapi. So! This is a great match if you want poi/tox/okapi dragons ^_^ Here is a cool guide that gives the odds of getting certain genes.

Crossroad Exchanges

Plentiful: Basic
Common Primary Genes: Clown, Piebald, Speckle, Tiger
Common Secondary Genes: Current, Daub, Freckle, Eye Spots, Paint, Peregrine, Stripes
Common Tertiary Genes: Thylacine, Underbelly, Contour
Uncommon Primary Genes: Bar, Cherub, Giraffe, Ripple, Vipera
Uncommon Secondary Genes: Hex, Hypnotic, Seraph
Are there any unspoken rules of exaltation? I mean, I know I shouldn't exalt dragons I got from someone as trainers or breeders but what about hatchlings? Are there periods of time when we should not exalt them? Like when we're clearly not going for dominance? Or are there no regulations?
The biggest taboo is exalting Unnamed dragons. It seems silly, but if you're trying to sell a dragon and it has a bunch of exalted, unnamed offspring, people are less willing to buy it. It's also kinda rude, since you can hit the random name generator button and spend all of half a second picking a name. It's a personal thing, but I never exalt hatchlings. I've stopped trading my hatchlings, too, because it annoys me when my babes are exalted. Bc needless to say they stop maturing and you can't give them a name retroactively. Like I said, though, it's a personal thing. The other thing is that the money you get from exalting a hatchling/level 1 is less than what you would buy/sell it for in the AH. When you exalt a hatchling, you will only get about 2,000T for it. Therefore, exalting one when we're not doing a push doesn't make sense. Players exalt hatchlings during a push because they know that they'll make up the money during the Dom week. Does that make sense?
Is there a way to get gems aside from buying them? The world map, different areas light up, but I can't do anything. Is there nothing to do in the different areas? My Gather Items went from 10 to 17. What happened? Does it keep going up with time? If skins are worn like apparel, then what are people putting on their dragons to look so pretty? Are they just gotten that way, somehow? And finally, why do people Exalt? Is there a perk to it?
(Sorry @AngelaMyrna, I made small edits to your questions, hope you don't mind!) Okay! So, some of these questions I sorta answer above, but I'll answer them anyway. =) You cannot get large sums of gems without buying them. Like, you're not going to find 1000 gems somewhere. But you will get them from chests, which you get from your familiars. When you reach the highest level for a familiar, you'll get a gilded chest. There's typically a dozen or more gems in those, so it starts to add up. The other way is to buy something with coins and sell it in gems. You've gotta be pretty money savvy to do that. The exchange rate is about 1 gem: 650 treasure, so you don't want to lose money on the exchange. Nope, it's not like Neopets or WoW or something where there are different regions you can get to. I think I saw a post a while back that sad that's their long-term goal. But for right now, it's just lairs and forums really. The reason your gathering turns went up is because your flight is in second place for Dominance. After Sunday, you will return to having 15 gathering turns per day. As I mentioned above, Dominance is won when a flight exalts more dragons on average than any other flight for that particular week. Last week (Feb 27-March 4), Plague exalted the second-highest number of dragons per player. Therefore, this week, your flight is reaping the benefits of that effort by getting the perks listed under the Dominance tab for 2nd place. Prepare yourself. Plague is one of the most Dom-heavy flights out there. I swear they have a Dom push every other week haha A Dom push is a flight's coordinated effort to win one of the top three spots for Dom. Plague had a push last week, got second place after Light, and will have the benefits of getting second place until this Sunday. You get 18 gathering turns if you secure the top spot and 17 for second. The biggest advantage to winning Dom is the discounts in the Marketplace. Go click on it. Until Sunday, you and every member of your flight has a 7% discount on Marketplace items. Light gets 15% but all the same, still pretty awesome. I am not sure I understand your question about prettiness though =/

(Sorry @AngelaMyrna, I made small edits to your questions, hope you don't mind!)

Okay! So, some of these questions I sorta answer above, but I'll answer them anyway. =)

You cannot get large sums of gems without buying them. @sinha27

Hello there ^^ i was talking with a friend who just joined, and as she found another way to make a biut of treasure, once she knew how to use the AH.

She'd transmute an item (a material) then post the ozze or responding item for LAH. She's managed to make quite a bit from this, as some of the oozes are selling for about 1500t.

Not sure if you want to add it here, but thought i'd leave a comment ^^
