So I've recently capped out on all my chests and I was originally going to open all of them until I saw how much gilded chests were going for (LAH currently is 4850g). But I'm not quite sure how much people are spending that much for them, and I've only opened a few gilded in small numbers so I'm not too familiar with the drops and how much they're worth it.
I'm not sure if I should open them all or try and sell on AH, any advice?

As far as opening vs. selling, the current pull list is now 2,987 so determining the "average" worth of the contents vs. AH price for Gilded chests has gotten even harder.
Minimum you get from opening a gilded chest is 5k treasure, 10g and one fodder familiar/apparel. Current price is around 29g/32kt. Prices tend to rise and more sales happen around the site anniversary and Christmas. Prices tend to drop a lot 89-95 days after NotN so right now we're a bit lower than normal.
The simplest answer boils down to:
Do you need/want any of the stuff chests drop in bulk?
How much time do you want to spend selling stuff/buying stuff/pricing stuff?
Overall I value my time higher than my chances of getting a lucky find in a chest now that the odds have been changed. Consider that the
Gilded Decorative Chest currently pull from a list of 2,987 items. The chance of getting something specific is very small and the chance that what drops is fodder-priced (either apparel or familiar) is very high.
If you search through
Discussion you'll find a few people have posted their mass-opening results. Without going through and pricing all the drop items it's impossible to get an average "value" of items a gilded chest will contain to compare to the price of selling the chest itself.
If you're not interested in selling off the contents then either opening them up and hoardselling/Baldwin transmuting the contents will save you time (not having to buy stuff) as will selling the chests outright and buying the Baldwin fodder you want. Of the two I generally just sell the chests since buying Baldwin fodder I can guarantee I'm only transmuting the cheapest available stuff rather than pricing all my chest drops.

I want to live in Theory. Everything works there.
Have you checked the
Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in
5g?
