Sorry if this is the wrong topic for the help center, but hi! I'm a new player and I want to gene my progenitors. However, genes are so expensive (or maybe they aren't and I'm just poor) and would take me days with no spending to save up for. I've tried the coliseum, but I only get genes for ancients. Should I just breed change them so they are? It would probably be less expensive than buying all of the genes that *aren't* the cheapest possible ones. Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have to save for a while?

@hoverfish You might just have to save for a while depending on the genes you want. Gene projects can take a while to finish, they generally aren't things you complete in a day unless you're amazing at making money or want really cheap genes.
There are some cheap modern scrolls for sale on the auction house, genes like Tertiary Gene: SmirchPrimary Gene: Fern and Secondary Gene: Morph are only a few gems each.
If you want marketplace genes you can get them for 15% cheaper buying through a user in the current dominating flight as first place in dom gets an MP discount. You can find these dom shops in the items for sale forum.
If you want Baldwin or Swipp genes try checking the auction house to see if buying them or making them would be cheaper.
If you want gem genes there's no cheaper way to get them, you'll just have to save up :c
