Do you get an alert if your dragon is featured as the Random Dragon? I think that this would make a cool achievement.

That would be pretty cool! Unfortunately, you don't get an alert now, and the dragon changes so often (I think it's like 5 minutes?) that I don't know if it would be practical.
What you can do is let someone know if their dragon has been on the front page by commenting on their user page or sending them a message - it's a really nice message to get :)
