I know that most items thrown into Baldwin's Bubbling Brew have rather random results, but does anyone know of any items that have a tendency to produce grey slime/goo? I haven't been able to make any.

Each item you throw in has the potential to make any of the various materials. All familiars can make all types of muck and all apparel can make any type of slime. It's all random and RNG; you just have been blessed with good (or bad) luck.

It's all random, but different types of items yield different types of materials.
Goo comes from food, Ooze comes from materials, Sludge comes from trinkets. These come in six colors, with green being most common and blue being rarest.
Slimes, which you're currently looking for, come from Apparel. It's the most common, with White and Black being rarer.
Mucks come from Familiars, with copper as the most common, then silver, and gold as the rarest.
Hopefully this helps.

Slime is made by melting down apparel. Grey slime is the most common result and is the one that sells for the most of all the commons barring festivals. In general the material that sells for the most is usually gold muck which is gotten from melting familiars, but copper and silver muck tend to sell for less and not as quickly, but are still viable to make a profit. Goo, ooze, and sludge aren't generally worth bothering with. Sure if you get blue it's great, but the greens and oranges don't sell for enough to make it worth wasting a turn with Baldwin. In short, melt down apparel and familiars and don't bother with the rest.

This guide gives the precise percentages of drops. Also, goo, ooze, and sludge are not useful for selling, as Ygdrasill said, but they are useful for crafting things for yourself.
