I keep whichever local critters need help at a given moment. Majority of the time it's local mantises who are either elderly or injured.
This lass below, for example, was missing one of her tibia when I found her. Not the kind of ailment that would be survivable in the wild, so me and my partner took her home and cared for her until she died of old age about half a year later on Christmas.

Sometimes it's other creatures.
Here, for example, is my favorite little girl ever — a violet carpenter bee. I found her crawling near a local construction site with a damaged wing. Without flight it would be game over for her anyway, so I took her home and provided her with fresh food, shelter and relative comfort until the end of her natural lifespan.

This baby just needed shelter. Local authorities came in the middle of winter and destroyed the tree outside our windows that had a carpenter bee hive (and her egg) in it. I found her, took her in, and cared for the egg until she was ready to hatch and fly away. So, in a way I guess I'm a proud mother now, lol.

I can go on, but you get the gist of it. I do keep invertebrates, but in more of a... uh, nursing home way, I guess?
