the way jack black went 'i'm steve' sounded like it physically pained him. like there was some sleeper agent virus incubating inside his body and the minute he uttered that awful phrase it would do irreparable damage to his psyche and by god it has

yeah. this film doesn't look good at all. i feel like they didn't put any love into this thing lol.
if anybody wants a good interpretation of minecraft, I'd give "A Strange Coast" by Ian Flynn a look, it's a ten page wordless comic, a pretty quick browse! it gets what minecraft is all about way more than this movie will. this film looks like those "minecraft in REAL LIFE" videos from 2015... i'm not a fan of all these soulless live-action movies coming out tbh. it seems they're more focused on making money rather than making art, or even a good story. minecrafts not something i really care about anymore, so besides this movie annoying me a bit, its existence is just really funny in a "can't look away from the terrible accident" sort of way. the memes making fun of it are pretty good at least lol

It looks so bad…idk why they tried to make it so realistic

Having been not an active fan of minecraft since a couple years ago, my verdict is.. It's ok. The evil mobs look better than the good mobs, I feel, particularly the piglins.
My biggest gripe with the movie would probably be the human characters. Would've made more sense if they just put everyone in mocap and made cgi models of the actors. The average people among a weird blocky world kind of makes sense if they're not from the Minecraft world. But if Steve has been living there a while, for him specifically, no it does not make sense. On principle of "body adapt to environment".
Speaking of Steve - and slightly off-topic - the game Spore already beat the minecraft movie to the 'I'm Steve' gag. And based off what I know... Yeah, Spore executed it better.
I'm always in camp "let people enjoy things", so I'm not going to dedicate too much energy to it.
However.
Not EVERYTHING needs a movie adaptation. Lol

I can’t even believe how bad it looks.

I can't believe that a movie that was being worked on for 10 years ended up like this. I agree that it should've been fully animated rather than doing this hyper realistic CGI "Live Action" approach but I think you guys have heard that a million times at this point. The characters look very much like they're just standing in a greenscreen room.
The Mario movie did really well and was entirely animated. Detective Pikachu also did good but a franchise about creatures can be translated into a realistic style very easily. Minecraft was ever meant to look realistic and it just looks weird the way it is. And honestly, maybe I'd be able to suck it up about the art direction if the story was amazing, sometimes things that are visually unappealing are good for other reasons, but the trailer isn't really giving me hope either. The jokes didn't seem funny to me at all. Maybe its just because I'm not their target audience, but they should understand that Minecraft's oldest fans are adults at this point.
But honestly, I'm mostly indifferent. It's disappointing its probably just another kids movie but its not the end of the world. But I think this is yet another recent example of movie studios completely not understanding what their audiences want.

I had a feeling it'd be bad, but not this bad-
Yeah I don't think live action should be the route here, I believe it would've been way better if it was all purely animated. Seeing real life people in a Minecraft world with those Minecraft in real life 2014 graphics just doesn't go together. And why does everything have this weird carpet texture to it??? I just can't-
Also I think it might be too late to give the Sonic movie treatment... At least with the Sonic movie all they had to do was change Sonic's face. With the Minecraft movie you'd have to change the whole environment and all the mobs and characters, which is probably too much. I still have some hope left, though that hope is disappearing pretty quick.

I remember hearing about a possible Minecraft movie ever since I was a kid, and I was picturing an animated movie, which I think probably would've worked better overall.
I'm honestly not even sure what to expect from this. If it does ultimately turn out to be bad, I hope it's more "so bad it's good" than just bad bad.
