i have three bug tattoos currently and hope to get more ! one goliath beetle on my left forearm, one ivoryhead cockroach on my right forearm, and a cecropia moth on my right shoulder. choosing a favorite bug is impossible for me, but an underappreciated type of bug i'd like to showcase are parasitoid wasps ! they're harmless to humans (as they usually have an ovipositor instead of a stinger) and make great biological pest control. they come in all kinds of different looks but here are some of my favorites: american pelecinid ! they lay their eggs into june beetle grubs and some populations are parthenogenic (all girls who just make clone babies). only the girls have the cool segmented tail and males are very rare to find. polycyrtus neglectus ! i don't know much about this one but i spotted one in real life once and after identifying it on inaturalist i just thought it was so cool. very pretty some species of fairyflies are the size of single celled organisms !!!!! this one is shown next to a paramecium. this family includes the smallest known insect in the world, dicopomorpha echmepterygis, which is even smaller than some kinds of single celled organisms. they lay their eggs inside other small insect eggs. heres another pic of a fairyfly because theyre so cute and tiny thanks for coming to my ted talk

Jumping spider with nice sparkly colors. There’s some nearly solid gold ones that wander around in small gardens. And here’s a mud dragon: [img]https://teara.govt.nz/files/p-5866-pc.jpg[img] They’re their own phylum! Found in mud of course.

My top three: Stag beetles! Weevils are such goofy little creatures Luna moths are ones I see occasionally where I live, and I’ve always thought they’re so pretty but also so sad

Just a common black and yellow garden spider but I hadn't seen one where I lived before, so when we moved I was very excited to see one up close for the first time! I find them big and intimidating but beautiful to look at :) Also one I got to see for the first time after our move, the Canadian Cicada. They feel much bigger than the spider and can fly, so I find them much more intimidating but omg they're cool to look at and I find cicada sound lovely. I love bugs so much but alas, I am also spooked by them lol (years of not having glasses while a UFO comes for my face has instilled a fear I'm still breaking)

Book scorpions are found around the globe. I once found one that may or may not have been native on a piece of drift wood that had come across an entire gulf due to a tsunami days before. They are venomous; injecting via the claws since they are tailless. But they’re so tiny, nearly microscopic, that it’s not particularly dangerous.

Shockingly, I like worms
On average, worms weigh 0.25 grams, so if you had 1 kg of worms you would have 4,000 of them
They don't have gender they got both of the organs for that
My favourite species is the New Zealand flat worm, they look so silly and in the best country. They eat other worms but we don't talk about that
I hope you count them as bugs even though they aren't insects
