I think people are saying different aspects of the same thing here.
HS was hated because it was so incredibly popular (especially with a younger crowd) that, by law of truly large numbers, a lot of its vocal fanbase were unbearable.
I did my best not to contribute to that myself (I was already a young adult when it was coming out), but even at my diehard homestuck-iest, I could acknowledge that a sizeable and vocal chunk of the fanbase were obnoxious kids. I do hope they've all grown up and settled down a bit. I don't participate in any online fandom anymore so I honestly have no idea how homestucks are now but I've been thinking about Homestuck again recently (helped by today being 04/13 of course). I think it's been long enough now that I can successfully pretend Homestuck2 never existed. [emoji=fae happy size=1]

man, homestuck. it served as a big obsession for a decent portion of my teenage years, which had its good and bad sides lmao. despite all the cringe and its reputation, i gotta say that i still look back on it fondly. weird and crazy fans really did a number on the fandom's reputation, and even when i was at my most dedicated point in my homestuck fixation i would get secondhand embarrassment from the things i would see people do. my peak homestuck phase was like 2013-2014 but i stuck around probably until 2017/2018ish?
homestuck did so much good for my creativity, and it is the reason why my current original world/story (which is my 10 year constant fixation at this point) is where it is now. i'm a sucker for big complicated plots, alien races, and huge casts of characters lol. i actually do think that the story is really interesting, even if it is hard to explain. i had a group of friends who were also pretty into it, but i was the one who was probably the most into it out of the four of us. the trolls are definitely the most popular part of homestuck, but i think it's worth the whole read if it's something you have a vague interest in. definitely starts slow but worth it in the end.
homestuck2 and the epilogues are pure garbage though. i will die on that hill lol. homestuck had a great ending with act 7 and should've stayed that way. i don't interact much with homestuck anymore, but hiveswap is actually fun ngl. just gotta wait another 200 years to get the third act lmao

Homestuck is probably my longest lasting special interest. My brother says he remembers me talking about it when he was in high school and he’s in his late twenties now.
I love Trolls, Fantrolls and everything about the Hemospectrum and Signs. I’ve played “Hiveswap Friendsim” and “Pester Quest”, along with a Friendsim-style fangame called “Snowbound Blood”, which ties into a fantastic fancomic called “Vast Error” — in fact a thread about it right here on FR brought it to my attention.
I don’t see my interest in Homestuck and Trolls ever fading away completely. It waxes and wanes but I’ve never wanted to give it up completely. In the distant future I can easily imagine myself as a 60 to 80 something year old walking around wearing Gamzee’s shirt and clown pants.
Happy 4/13

Recently I myself have gotten into HS (around 2020-2021) and I love it! I have fandragons of it plus I've actually cosplayed Terezi twice now (second time because I now had Professor Lemonsnout)! I haven't really read all the way through but I believe I was on.. Close to act 4 or 5?? I forgot and I have possibly lost my spot while clearing tabs from safari to lower my storage..^^'
Anyways happy 4/13!!

Youcal Ok, the thing about HS is that it's a very long-running webcomic with a lot of random jokes and asides, the insanely complicated plot notwithstanding
but essentially the premise of Homestuck is four online friends play a game together, and through the course of playing this game both end the world and create a new one
stuff gets weird rather quickly of course but that is Homestuck in a very very small nutshell

No need to ping, I'm subbed to all my own threads!
