Don't Starve. It could kind of be called a horror game, but barely. It's just mildly unsettling and strange, although it makes my top 10 games of all time for characters and art style.

Oh boy, let's talk GTAV. So first there's the infamous Ghost up in the mountains. If you come here, wait for night, at a specific time she will show up. In relation to this ghost, there is a similar spot to this where you can hear the wind, and within the wind, you can hear whispers. I'm not sure if it's the same mountain spot, but whispering wind, gets me every time, so it's worth mentioning. Also in GTAV is the whole 8s thing. If you're clever enough, and can follow some clues, in storymode, you can actually come across a ton of dead bodies in correlation with this. I came a cross one by mistake until I pieced it together with this. It was so cool, but so creepy. The Fallout Games are another big one with a ton of moments. They're not designed to be horror games, but because of the lore, I have no idea how they're not. If the enmies aren't what scares you, it's definitely the stories behind every single location that'll make your bones rattle. The vaults - Each vault is it's own horror story. If you want a good chill down your spine, I suggest listening to some of the Fallout Lore stories. Oxhorn on YouTube makes great in depth videos about each location. But just to touch on it: Each vault was basically just a controlled study. If you were lucky enough to get in a vault, you were probably not very lucky at all; because you just became a human test subject. Most people didn't even know it. Within some of the vaults these things occurred: -Parents and children were separated where parents were killed and their children went through trials of training to either become a physically impressive super-human, or a scientist conducting this study their selves. -Residents were subjected to having diseases straight up given to them without their knowledge to test the effects of cures, vaccines, etc. -People who struggled with addiction were placed in a vault and underwent therapy and rehab-like treatments. Later on the scientists conducting the study were to open a huge cache of chems and alcohol to the residents to see if the effects of treatment would prevent them from relapsing. It ended in a bloodbath. -People were to elect a person to be like the mayor of the vault. This was not a position you wanted as at the end of each term, the person in power had to act as a sacrifice to the system.. People who were running would attempt to guilt trip people into not picking them and would point out flaws in others, in hope they would pick someone else who was a "worse" person. What these people didn't know is that they didn't have to do this. It was said if they refused to sacrifice one, it would mean all would die. But this was not true, they could have simply refused to sacrifice anyone, and if they did, the study would essentially just end. -And hundreds more... Some creepy locations with lore: The Pickman Gallery - Pickman is a present day artist that creates "paintings" with the blood of his enemies. He also creates sculpture pieces with their bodies. If you visit his house, you'll see all his creations... In certain locations around the game, you'll find random fresh bodies scattered around. If you attempt to search them, you'll find "Pickman's Calling Card" showing that the murderer was here not long ago. What's even better is that he's talk of the town. If you listen to NPCs talk enough, they'll eventually start talking about Pickman's Gallery and what they fear goes on there. The Ultra-Luxe - A high culture society that's pretty much made up of cannibals. If you mention this, they all act like it's some sort of rumour or legend from long ago that isn't true. However if you sneak into the kitchen, you can actually find some clear evidence of these "rumours." Not to mention, there's an actual person being held captive down there that they kidnapped from his father. You can actually talk to his father right in the same building, and see that he's concerned as to where his son went. To me that makes it even worse. It's obviously horrible to buy or hunt down people for food, but they take people right from the lobby. Even just coming here means you could be the next dinner. Goodsprings Graveyard - If you sit here for a while, you'll hear whispering in the wind. There's not too much lore with what's going on here, but I swear every time I come here and visit, they're saying something different to me. There's plenty more, but too many to touch on. Some lesser creepy things, but things that catch you off-guard and lead your mind to wonder about, or just straight up scary stuff: Spectacle Island - While not super creepy with lore and all, it's a minefield for jumpscares. Every inch you walk, there's deadly forms of Mirelurks just popping right out of the ground, ready to attack. Graveyard Encounter - It's not scary, but you can come across a small graveyard where a raider is burying a loved one that was killed or died. You can hear her sob and cry, but beyond that, it hits a little hard. This whole time you're running around killing raiders left and right that you really don't stop to think that they're just people too. Most of them just were raised in this mess of a world and to a mess of a "family," but they're still people. They still love, they still grieve. Some are down right monsters, but after talking to Gage later in the game, you see that not all are monsters, and most are people who felt they had no where else to go. Whenever I come across this encounter, the cries just haunt me and I just get lost in a whirl of thought. Skyscraper Deathclaw - There's a building in the city that's several, and I mean several stories high off the ground. When you reach the roof and start o walk around, I swear you'll never forget seeing that arm come reaching over the ledge. Higher ground does not mean safety. The Glowing Sea - by far one of the most haunting places to walk through. All the radiation, all the legendary enemies, the low visibilities, and every single thing you come across just has some insane story attached to it. There's nothing too scary outside of that, but I get weird sweat chills when I stumble across the Plane.

Anyway, they just randomly spawned, and if you went deep enough in them there was this really weird place with solid black blocks and eyes everywhere staring at you. It probably wasn't that scary looking back on it, I was always scared easily as a kid, but there's still something about drawn eyes that unnerve me. Ironic, really, considering I love to draw eyes.
Dimensional Doors Mod. The doors were very unsettling and the pitch black with random eyes is called Limbo. You get trapped in Limbo by breaking through the blocks and 'escaping' dimensional dungeons. Whenever I play Hexxit I make sure I don't enter those doors.. Yesterday I found Sato Headwater, in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Huge, water-filled cavern with nothing in sight but giant branches/roots (you can't fight if you're swimming). The most obvious looking boss fight location you could ask for, so instant tension. Shocked nothing lunges out of the water while I'm swimming, I start climbing the roots, waiting for the other shoe to drop. About halfway up the roots, an Electric Scintimure appears directly in front of me, mouth open. For reference, they look like this, but imagine it being like, three times larger than your character, and not knowing right away if it's about to kill you. Granted, it's normal for enemies to drop from the ceiling or something in this game, but they don't usually do it footsteps in front of you. Fortunately, it wasn't a hostile-on-sight type of mob, but still very unsettling the rest of the time I was in there.

If those monolith things completely open their eyes (which happens when you even glance at one of them), you'll end up in another area of Limbo, and you basically have to look at the ground constantly to avoid being trapped by the monoliths.
