I'm thinking about getting a tattoo when I turn 18 this year, but I have a low pain tolerance and am afraid it'll hurt more than I can handle. How badly do tattoos hurt? I know the pain differs depending on where you get it, but I was just thinking on my inner forearm. The first picture is what I would like the most, but I do like the simplicity of the second one as well. There's a more complex tattoo I know I want later on, and I can show that one too if anyone's interested. I just think it would be a little too much for a first tattoo.

i really like star wars ok
I had my first tattoo done of the back of my left shoulder and to be honest, it didn't really hurt. It felt more like an annoying scratching sensation than any real pain, but the inner arm area you're considering having yours done is a sensitive area in general, so I'd expect that to be very sore for a while.

To start off; I have four tattoos. One on my forearm, one on my upper arm, one on my back, and one practically behind my knee. And I listed those off in the amount of pain they cause. First one not at all, the last one hurt so much I was crying the entire time and it's just a black panda.
It's really just like a painful scratch you get from a cat. Over and over again. I found it more annoying than anything. (Though for some reason they're addictive as heck) So don't worry too much if you have low pain tolerance, you shouldn't be too bad off in a spot like you're wanting. The one on my forearm wraps around a little, and I hardly broke a sweat during the 4 hours it took. It all lies with how much you want the darn thing.

HEYA! i have an entire sleeve on my left arm and some on my right arm.
the location that you showed for the first tattoo literally feels almost like nothing, it was mostly like a pen drawing on my skin with just a little bit too much pressure, but if you're talking during it you probably won't even notice it. inner forearm is a SUPER beginner friendly place to get tattooed!
i have a HORRIBLE pain tolerance (like, i cry when i get a little bruise) and it was honestly fine for me! the worst part is after the tattoo the moment it's wrapped up in bandages; it feels like a scrape, but nothing that you haven't felt before.

Lol my first tattoo was in the same place and around the same size. At some points it did hurt quite a bit imo. I personally have a hard time getting them done for more than an hour. After that it starts to be too painful for me. It is definitely dependent on the person though! The part at the top near the bend of your arm hurt the worst for me. Of course I got more so it wasn't that bad lol. If you are unsure of how you'll take it I would suggest going smaller for your first tattoo. You could always get something else first, then that, and then your bigger one later. I think getting them done is the only way to know how you'll handle it. It is like something scratching you over and over again.. afterwards hurt too but more like idk a burning or something.

the inner arm is more sensitive than the outer arm, but in general the fleshy parts of your body hurt a lot less than bony areas! it might hurt if you get close to the wrist or the elbow ditch (the elbow ditch hurts a
lot more than you'd first think), but in general the arms are pretty friendly places for first tattoos.
if you're really worried about pain, some shops will have a numbing spray they can offer you, or you can invest in some lidocaine patches that you'd put on a few hours before the appointment. i never use them, personally, but my pain tolerance is also insane so your mileage may vary. i'd check in with your artist either way to see what they think
i powered through
my first tattoo in four hours with a 20-minute break for the sake of my artist's hand. i think if the tattoo means enough to you, you'll be willing to deal with whatever level of pain comes with it :0

I have three tattoos myself and I honestly was not bothered by the slight pain. The happiness and satisfaction of having a tattoo definitely outweighs the discomfort for sure! You'll be glad you endured it.

I have one of each forearm, and honestly? It doesn't hurt too much. The only place where it hurt more than anywhere else was near the crook of my elbow and near my wrist.
Over all, like Xela said it's kinda more of an annoying scratching with a little bit of pain than anything. Afterwards it feels like a sunburn for a few days, and it'll be itchy as it heals, but it's nothing a little lotion (non-scented is recommended I believe) can't help.
The artist will answer any questions you have (or should), so always feel free to ask, especially if it's your first tat (: They'll also tell you how to take care of it after you leave the shop.
I'd say that the feeling of getting a tattoo is a combination of cat scratches and rug burns. I've stepped on legos that hurt more, but a tattoo is just a more drawn out discomfort as it takes longer to "put on" your skin.
In some areas, it is more uncomfortable, but overall it isn't that bad, especially where you are talking about getting your first tattoo.

The inner forearm can be pretty touchy. I have reeeally sensitive skin and I have four good-sized tattoos so far. I think the easiest tattoo I got was on my upper arm (my first tattoo), but during the second tatt when the needle went over my inner arm it was a lot more sensitive than I was expecting.
I would say if you're looking for an idea of pain, my best comparison would be like having a bad sunburn and scratching it with the edge of a toothpick. The closer you get to the bone, the more it hurts as well. Some people numb up after a while. I never did, but it was always bearable.
I think you should be fine as long as you're determined and it's something you really want. Just remember, this form of pain does NOT mean something bad is happening. Pain is temporary. Tattoos are permanent though, so make sure this isn't something you might regret later.
