At least it's not impossible. Houndstar was once leader of Shadowclan.

i didnt really base either on a specific breed but those two pictures are just how i imagined their builds!
he got his prefix from what a ginormous kit he was! he was a big ol' boy and hes still much larger than average (not in weight but size, which still makes him heavy, just not fat heavy) and it somehow connects back to him being a good fighter
i really like those suggestions though!
@
Houndstooth wow your name sure is relevant
ee i like those names too! im gonna keep them in mind!
i was gonna consider Houndleap but it turns out theres already a scrawny black tom named that so whatever lol. something that relates back to his tragic past maybe?? hmmm

Ohh okay, I was just referring to weight because I'm looking at it in kind of a clan-sense. If you want to be a bit more direct, maybe go for Woolfire (wool/wooly has been canonically used, a bit off but) or Thickfire?
Also, that's cool that I hit the breeds on point. I'm into cat genetics so this is fun.

I almost said Houndtooth before I went "waiiiit a second..." xD And I knew Houndleap sounded familiar, but I couldn't figure out how. I really need to re-read Warriors

Since I am a traditional namer, none of the names suggested in this thread seem fitting to me. Perhaps you would like to take a look at
this?
What you and the others in this thread have come up with are all lyrical names, some of which attempt to say something about the cat in question, but it's inconsistent and seems a little strange. I mean, what is Heavyfire supposed to say about the cat in question? A heavy fire? A stocky red cat? There is no room for indication of skill in this name, it's two prefixes smushed together.
I have to admit, Ashsky sounds nice, but that's about it. What does -sky say about the cat?
Just as a friendly tip, I think some people won't take your comic seriously if the main protagonist is named Heavyfire and another is named Ashsky, for no other reason than "it sounds nice".

I'm sorry to tell you, but none of the names you suggested are traditional.
I believe what you are referring to as "traditional naming" is actually called
canonical naming. Traditional naming is explained on
this blog, canonical naming means that the namer in question find the usage of any prefixes and suffixes used in the books acceptable.
Sorry to both of you in case I have offended you, but it bugs me when people call something traditionalism when it isn't. If you would like to use lyrical names instead, feel free to do so, of course, everything in this post is just a suggestion. ^^

Pteranodon I see where you're coming from, but I used to come from a Warriors-based RP site in which there was what was called "Traditional" Warriors RP, which was canon based and then there was "Extended" Warriors RP, in which more than cats could join the clans and names got way crazier. So that explains why I chose to use the term "traditionally" naming warriors. I have never before seen any other version of "Traditional" naming until now.

Pteranodon i love your username omg
i thought of Heavyfire's name based on his size for the prefix and his skill in battle + fur color for suffix
it is a little weird so i might change it but fire was more for how a fire is very dangerous and he is a mighty warrior. Ashsky/fall is named based completely on her fur color
im not offended at all! i appreciate the feedback very much! that website is very useful, thank you
im adding more on the original post in a moment if you want to check those out

Pebblestep, Lilyripple, Pebbleclaw, Ripplefeather, Stonewhisper, Shatteredecho, Dewsong, and Troutsplash.
And click

I personally use a system (unless I know for certain what I want to name the character). I number all of my pre-fix and suff-fix names, then put that in the random number generator. The two sets of numbers I get make the warrior name (though sometimes I re-roll if I really don't like it, or if it's already been used before). If it helps any, here are my name lists (I try to update them as often as possible when I think of names) -
https://sta.sh/023g7qp7vv4y
https://sta.sh/0xxohv7bug2
This is, of course, more for popping out names than anything. Usually I make names to fit the characters, but sometimes I just make a random name, then work the character to fit that name (this works best when I'm doing background characters, or filling in family trees and just need a name).
I have some ideas for Ripplestripe:
-Ripplepool
-Rippleshade
-Rippleshine
-Carpwater
-Minnowripple
Edited for a typo

*busts through wall*
DID SOMEONE SAY WARRIORS!?!?!?
But in all seriousness:
Hmm, for Ripplestripe, maybe Ripplestream? But I don't know.
