I have a regular (old) 3DS, have had for three years now, bought pre-owned but in mint condition. Never had any major problems with it (except some charger connection issues, though I don't really know what was to blame; the socket or the charge adapter itself), up until now: the lil guy won't turn on anymore. I haven't played with it for a while but kept it in a safe place; no moisture, no other dangerous conditions, and the last time I played with it and turned it off to preserve battery life (it has seen better days, after all), everything seemed to be just fine.

(It's a bit crusty, sorry about that.)
It appears to be charging normally, the orange light turns on when 3DS is plugged. When I push the power button the other lights turn on- the blue power light and wireless indicator. also I can see the screen backlights turning on but the system won't boot. Poof. Nothing happens. When I close the lid and open again, the backlights turn off and 3DS is basically in a limbo until I hold the power button again for a couple of seconds, when all the lights turn off. From what I've read it might be battery pack issues, but would a faulty BP charge normally?
Help a fam out, I guess. Sun and Moon's just around the corner. Don't ping me- I'll have the topic subscribed.

I had the same issue with my 3ds xl some time ago, it just refused to boot up no matter what I did. I got mine working after I let it completely empty the battery by leaving on for a day and then recharging it fully without turning it on.

Replies may be slow, so sorry ;w;
I'd say give it a really good clean, everywhere you can get to. Can't remember if the battery can be removed from the back, but blowing some air in there wouldn't hurt.
Sorry I'm not more help. D:

I had to get a new DS recently because of problems with charging and turning on, before that, my DS lites (the second of it's kind owned by me) screen began to die.
Charging seems to be a problem cropping up with the original 3ds now, my charging port in the DS came loose, so the charger had to be held tightly in a specific position or it wouldn't charge.

Try removing the battery pack.
This has never actually happened to my 3DS before but I have had a similar problem with my phone before. Removing the battery fixed it.

The matter is all solved now; I picked my 3DS back up from the repair service on Tuesday and it's working like a charm. It turned out to be a busted charge socket + some minor internal leaks and a wee little wire in the screen area that came loose, got no particular details on this, but I wasn't charged a lot.
Posting this for update sake and if anybody else had similar problem.

Ah thank goodness it was only that! I was getting worried that it might also be because of "blown up" battery that my friend had on his old 3ds recently. And nice to hear that it didn't cost an arm and a leg to repair either :D!

Rako Awesome. Glad you didn't have to relive a nightmare I once had. (Read: The DS was damaged so badly that the top and bottom half were only attached to each other by three wires).
