DeepflowManah Yeah! They all look really cool and its nice to see how the architecture varies. Those that have stained glass windows are my favorites.

Another native speaker here. I have done language tandem before (two people helping each other in learning each other's language), so if you have any specific questions, you can ask me :)
Also, if you ae interested, there are many channels on youtube explaining different aspects of Germany and German culture. I really like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/user/SamWaltonMan
(90% of the watchers are probably Germans trying to find out what other people think about them xD)
I think many Germans are saddened and annoyed by the lingering WWII stigma. WWII and the Third Reich make up about 60% of german history lessons (the other 40% are French Revolution), it is like we are constantly told "Bad Germans! BAD! Don't do that again!".
Sometimes I feel that simply being born German makes me some kind of second-class human in the eyes of some people. Like I have some evil German hellspawn nazi gene o_o
About the food: Traditional German food has a lot of pork. I personally don't like pork all that much (I prefer poultry), but yeah, in the traditional foodstuff, it's everywhere. Pork and potatoes.
Also, tons of bread, and tons of wurst to put on it. Alcohol-wise, besides the beer, German wines are supposed to be pretty good as well. I can't tell, as I do not drink any alcohol, but I rarely see people drink imported wine.

I'm a 4th year German student! I'm not fluent yet but I'm pretty proficient. Slowly improving is my tip. Spread out your study time so you can take in as much as possible, but not to the point of cold turkey. My teacher recommended putting a set of note cards in the bathroom, and while you're there just go over a few words! It honestly helps.
German is actually my third language, with English and Swedish being my first two respectively. Good luck my friend!

I would love to be a fluent speaker of German!
I did a couple of years of it in school but I have zero ppl to practice with since everyone from that side of my family got old and, well, died. Mostly I use it for swearing at my cat and listening in on tourists.
I hate speaking to Germans because my accent makes everyone laugh - I'm Scottish and I sound like an Austrian. It's a fun mix.
I'm dyslexic and German was the easiest language for me to learn. Tbh the grammar makes more sense than English and the spelling all makes sense. Still can't get used to using "ss" now though.

I'm totally going to do that now. Guilty as charged :D
(In addition to 60% of history lessons, 30% of French lessons, 20% of religion lessons, and 99,9% of the books we read in German class. I suspect a less awesome teacher would have added English to this list, and Spanish would be here if I had actually taken that class. I'm genuinely surprised art isn't on here.)

That's really only the biggest appeal to me about those churches nowadays. :)

Wow, your becoming trilingual, my friend. Which is your native tongue?

I'm honestly surprised that learning German was easier for you. What was your difficulty with the other languages, if I may ask?

Are French and Spanish the main languages they teach at school? My school is an international school, or believes that we should be taught to get along with other countries and be...knowledgeable of the histories and appreciating other cultures (i probably butchered that description) so my school has a ton of languages to learn but for most schools in the U.S (more or less) is Spanish, French and I think Italian.

bloodyangel12 English was my native language, but I started learning Swedish when I was about 7 or 8. German was fairly easy to learn for the most part, probably just because it's my 3rd language

Not sure how they handle this nowadays (I've heard Spanish is taught more often then when I went to school), but basically English is mandatory, and depending on your school, one other language (my sister had to learn French, I could pick either French or Latin, and a few years later my school also added Spanish to that list). They sometimes have voluntary extra classes for other languages such as Russian.

That makes sense. I guess your brain learns to adjust how you understand languages. Once you get past the initial hurdle of organizing how it works, it gets somewhat easier faster (maybe)?
