General Info
Hello everyone, Rose here-- I saw a lot of technical guides and thought I'd throw together my thoughts and experiences (after opening nearly
Coliseum
The areas of interest are:
- Woodland Path
- Scorched Forest
- Waterway
- Arena
- Kelp Beds
- Golem Workshop
As a whole, I suggest:
- Woodland Path (WP)
- Waterway (WW)
- Arena (AR)
I have a glass cannon level 25 team who can kill WP opponents with one scratch which makes for quick grinding. One eliminate takes care of AR and WW opponents.
After grinding in all these areas if you have a level 25 team I suggest the Arena, as usual, to maximize your profit from the event. If you can get over 5 battles/min (which should be relatively simple once you max out breath) then you'll be rolling in chests!
As a generality, avoid the Kelp Beds and Golem Workshop unless you are familiar with them and feel comfortable grinding there.
Gathering
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I suggest using your Gathering turns on Scavenging and not Digging.
Why this is: from Digging on day 1 I received ~23 chests. This was lucky; most people received 10 or less. After opening them I had a bunch of food items and a mirror.
Visit the drop rate of strange chests I linked in the first section to see your chances of getting anything of value from chests. In my opinion, it is much smarter to Scavenge for eggs than try to obtain them from digging for chests.
To put this in perspective:
I have opened about ~800 chests
Out of those 800, I received 3 eggs and 4 familiars.
Given that, the drop percentage of anything decent is 7/800 which is .00875, so .8%.
You might-- might get lucky with ~20 chests, but the odds point to no! Which is why I suggest using them on Scavenging in the Ice/Plague/Shadow/Water area. Simply put, this is for the chances you might pick up a nice expensive familiar on your search for eggs. (:
This suggestion is for those with Coliseum teams who can grind/fight foes for chests. I suggest those of you who don't have teams look into a Leveling Service to build one if you've not the time and patience to build your own. I've linked you to page 4 of the Item Sales forum as the first 3 are overrun with NotN requests.
Opening Chests
I suggest putting on the jeopardy theme song for some extra thrills. It's okay if it doesn't load, it's likely a fish anyway.
On a more serious note, try to open them when users online are ~2-3k. It goes a bit quicker than rush hour.
Selling Your Profits
Keep in mind, people are buying Nocturne hatchlings sometimes just to scatterscroll them. Don't sell yourself short! Some might well go for ~300-400k. Don't undercut too far, if you can help it. Always price at or around the lowest price on the AH if you want it to sell quick-- even a 1kT decrease can persuade a buyer.
Strange Chests seem to be averaging at 4kT but this could change during the two weeks.
Hold onto your scrolls, if you're lucky enough to get any and don't have a want to use them on your own dragons! They will only increase in price.
Buying Event Prizes
Wait till the end of the week, and don't let your frustration get the best of you. By a few days before the end of the event, people will have A) the most extra valuables to get rid of and B) be undercutting on the AH in order to sell them.
Never stop hunting for a better deal, but don't wait until the event is over. From there the items will only increase in value (except perhaps Nocturnes themselves-- thank you, breeding).

If you have any comments to add, please just ping me! If you have a guide to be added to the first section, same deal. :) Hopefully this was somewhat helpful as a comprehensive guide. It's not pretty but it covers all the bases!
