So presumably the big reward for this event is Fathoms as a new breed. But unlike the Dustcarve Dig where we actually discovered the Obelisks at the end of the dig, here we know about the Fathoms already. So whatever we're actually searching for on the dive must be something else. Based on this line from Merrigan:
Regarding our search, Tetra and some of the other Deepseers detected a familiar, lingering essence. Not the Tidelord himself, but it seems there was something tied to his power here some time ago.
It seems like we're not getting the Tidelord back, but will probably discover something related to him.
What do you guys think we'll find? Will it be something with a gameplay consequence, or just lore?

I reckon it’s something to do with the humanoids/humans we saw in the inital story for FR in the second age, especially since they’re trying to bring attention to the ship we saw previously

Could be! Though, I do remember somewhere in the distant past a staff member said there neither were nor will ever be actual humans on Sornieth. Could still be 'noid, maybe.

Been thinking about this as well, and honestly I have no clue. Feels like lore to explain the Fathoms joining the modern dragon roster would be the most obvious reward, but it would also be a very long haul for a reward that’s apparent from the start. So I’m inclined to think there’s more to it.
My wild theory is a dual release for both a modern and an ancient, haha. I don’t think it’s going to happen, so a more serious guess is that it’ll reveal some new gameplay feature - something bigger than a minigame but smaller than adventure mode.
Or, a surprise twist, it’s a new modern that’s not Fathoms, fathoms are just the new courier dragons.

I mean, the name's got "Oracle" in it, so... "lingering [Tidelord] essence" is giving "lost prophecy" vibes, to me? Can bubbles be stuck underwater for a long time...?

I can only guess that it might be a couple water sprites, they could've followed Tidelord and a few got trapped somewhere in Oracle's Heart.
edit: And now we see the plot of the dive into Oracle's Heart... seems to be the case...

I hope it's the Tidelord.
