I personally am not very fond of them, mostly because I kinda get a bit creeped out by creatures having horse hair that shouldn't. Don't know why, but it does mean Mop is my least favorite gene in the game.
I'm also under the impression that Veilspuns are popular.

If you ping me, please remember to include capitals for each word or I won't get your ping! It's GaleGecko, not galegecko.

Wow, y'all are asking for it by hating on faeries, lol.
Veilspun are one of my favorite Ancients, even ranking ahead of many of the Modern dragons. The only downside of them is that they are a gem breed, but that shouldn't really bother you unless you are strictly a gen1 lair. I also find it really odd how many people are disliking them because of their insect features when I see far more people constantly begging for more bug features.
TLDR, I'm baffled by all the Veilspun hate all of a sudden.

They're ok to me. If you asked two years ago, I would've said I liked them a fair bit. That's changed now with other Ancients like Sandsurges and Auraboas coming around.
As some others have already said, the horse-like appearance is kind of a turn-away. Veilspun genes don't do too much to stand out in terms of my tastes. They're alright, but they're not anything I'd go out of my way to have in my lair.

I’ll like them a bit better if my veilspun project pair would quit failing.

idk, my mom's not big on ancients but loves veilspuns (she may be biased as a shadow member) but yeah! i think veils are a pretty well-loved breed. they're good for really any aesthetic you're going for! examples:
