So ever since the revelation that once you clear a plot you just have to restart the same plot, I haven't used my magnifying glasses. I have 20. It also doesn't help that I'm kind of a casual player and don't really get on to use my resources that much.
Welp ;w;

i used my magnifying glasses on the scene, and im using them on the vista now. after that, i'll use them on the apparel boxes.
logic is the stuff that'll be rarer, or basically just the stuff i can turn around and sell. not particularly interested in much of arlo's current stuff

I've been using mine and not a single one has gone to the plot I cleared already. Maybe the odds are low, or I'm just lucky.

I’m using them in the apparel right now. I’m going to try to farm it because I love the apparel.

Seems like magnifying glasses are best used to even out plots so you unlock all of them at pretty much the same time, to minimize "wasted" pickaxes on already-unlocked plots.
I just wish we knew how pickaxes were distributed? Whether it picks plot first, then square within that plot (in which case larger plots would have the same chance of being rolled as smaller plots, and percentage-wise would unlock slower since there's more squares to go being cleared at the same rate) or just randomize a square across all plots (in which case larger plots would have a higher chance of being selected since they have more total squares). That might be something to experiment with once I clear everything.

i've been using them on bigger plots or anything with fewer dug up spots

I am doing the same thing. I am planning to use only pickaxes until next weekend and then I will use my gathered lenses to unlock as much plots as possible. Hopefully I can unlock all the fams at that time. :)

Used majority of mine today to finally clear up a fam I was close to! Had 9, used 7, saving the other 2 for another day

I've been using them on the black apparel bundle for that exact reason.
If I'm going to be forced to restart it after I finish it the first time, I might as well focus on something I know I'll need multiples of, right? Especially since the apparel bundles only give a few random items from the set, so I'll need to dig up at least 2 bundles to even come close to completing it.

I just want all of the familiars and I figure I can trade or sell if I get extras of things
