I may as well include the other designs that were experimented with on the stream Undel did.

"Frogfeet Mcstubbins"
They were both passed up in favor of "silk dragon", which became the veilspun.
Undel had this to say about Frogfeet:
Haha. Frogfeet was actually from several years ago. I misspoke. Dusted off the drawing and made some tweaks to it, but ultimately decided that it didn’t really hit the notes for what we are aiming for with this breed. That said, stubby frog dragons are love. :)
I love spiky stubby frog dragon
Anyway I really love the Veilspun breed! When I saw the stream with the butterfly wings I thought that was wonderful, but the bee wings make them much more unique since butterfly is such an overused trope in art imo

Honestly I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get the big fairy wings of the original concept art, if only because they didn't push the bug inspiration very hard in the end. It looks like they decided to pivot from what you'd expect from a more typical fairy dragon to mirroring IRL bug anatomy... and then did nothing else with that beyond changing the wing anatomy. I also think that wing change ended up hurting the overall look of the F pose, which is still posed in a way meant to show off big outstretched wings... wings that are now much, much smaller and flattened tight against the body. I think the F pose could've used reworking at that point in the concepting stage; imo the M pose is much better looking in comparison because it was clearly drawn after this decision was made and takes it into account.

yeah, same. i loved the fairy wings. kind of wish that females had kept the fairy butterfly wings and males got the bee wings

Stormdragon I hope Frogfeet Mcstubbins can return someday! It's a niche we desperately need more of (squat, stocky dragons).

I’m so glad they made that final change to the hair on the neck - that was my only gripe!! I feel vindicated

I think veilspuns are ok but I feel like they didn't go further with the concept.
There are so many different/crazy/beautiful looking bugs out there so seeing veils looking like hairy pearlcatchers is meh.
Veils do have stellar genes tho, I wish they were just regular dragons so I could dress them.

@Katharos Agreed. I would have loved more insect-like elements such as antenna.

Shisa They specifically said that, since it was a gem breed, they weren't going to do the multiple heads/no wings/etc. because they didn't want such a popular request "behind premium currency."

mithrel Yep, I'm aware. Still, they could have easily added an insectile element or two to the veilspun while keeping the 2 wings 1 head 4 legs formula. As they are now, their bug wings look out of place.
