He’s a computer (and introduces himself as the “voice of the Knight 2000’s microprocessor”) at its core, though quickly learns to become more human through a developing bond between himself and his crimefighting partner/driver, Michael Knight. KITT resembles a pure black 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, though is, in truth, “probably the most expensive car in the world,” according to Devon Miles, the head of the Foundation for Law and Government. FLAG is whom Michael and KITT work for, with a drive to stop criminals who are above the law. The most famous visual difference is the red scanner lights just back from the car’s pointed beak, which he uses to “see,” in the many different uses of the term. KITT is nearly invincible on the exterior, made from a molecular bonded shell (MBS) instead of aluminum, and boasts a top speed of 300 miles per hour with help from his turbine engine, and always makes sure to show off his turbo boost jump. Likewise, the dragon prides himself on his invincible structure and surprising agility. While autonomous, he much prefers to find a single loyal teammate to aid, just so long as credit is given where it’s due. Yet, he will form temporary bonds with the more gentle kind, including animals (even if he will initially turn them away) and hatchlings he decides to protect. KITT can also be a fair bit of a prankster, even if just for shock value, if anyone dares to threaten him or his admittedly fragile ego. After all, threats don’t usually amount to much when the adversary is unaware of KITT’s ability. But when they are, things can get tricky. His vulnerability arises from his very nature as a computer. Should one be capable of bypassing security measures by earning his trust and physically switching components, KITT can be “hacked,” and forced to act contrary to his usual will. Electric shock similarly does not bode well, and can severely damage his systems even if his exterior remains. Highly corrosive materials may dissolve much of his function except for the MBS, and the most scientifically or magically advanced of dragons might even be able to find a way to chemically neutralize his shell, rendering him susceptible to damage just as any other robot. And while quite competent on his own, his overly logical approach can lead to miscalculation in combat. Taking away any teammates is a sure way to weaken him. KITT’s only physical weakpoint (as a dragon; his interior is not invincible as a car) is his scanner light.
