Amidst the festivities of the gathering, there stood a clearing bedecked in glow and bloom. The fragrance of many a flower blended into a light and airy medley that even a visiting dragon might find pleasant rather than cloying or overpowering. Fireflies danced in lazy circles, providing an appealing flickering background to the soothing lantern light. Banners honoring the gathered flights fluttered ever so slightly in the evening's breeze, supporting a sense of unity that only the great diversity of nature could truly bring about.
Here dragons gathered in their occasion's finest, some gossiping excitedly among their peers whilst others milled about to find their places. And at the center of the chaos towered a particularly vibrant behemoth, her deep and gravelly voice lowered thoughtfully to issue directions to a veritable swarm of fae clutching ribbons and streamers. Only once the amiably chirping draconic cloud had dispersed did she rouse her heavy head, soothing baritone roused to a carrying trumpet.

Some of you have traveled far indeed to celebrate this festival of life, which nature has provided us in so many forms. To honor this bountiful flora and fauna that the Gladekeeper has loved and nourished, we offer you this contest. Each day you will given a theme to prepare yourself to embody, and each night you may present yourself to the judges. Those whom best embody that day's theme will be rewarded, and at the end of the gather a prize will be offered as well to what the judges determine as the finest costume of the masquerade. With a flourish of one great amethyst wing, the gaudily bedecked guardian indicated for one and all a great boulder at the clearing's fore. Clearly the great centerpiece had been brought in by those dragons that lived in residence, a massive sheet of parchment tacked upon it with the terms of the contest.

[center]Competition Rules[/center][LIST]
[*] Any and all may enter themselves in the masquerade. Whether a clan competes each day or merely once is a choice they may make of their own accord. One need not enter every day to enjoy the event.
[*] Once a costume has been presented, it must be worn for the length of the masquerade. A dragon that competes one night may not remove their costume to don another, nor offer parts of their costume to friends or clanmates whom participate on other days.
[*] The use of skins and accents is permitted, and their [i]creative[/i] use is encouraged!
[*] Competitors have until the end of each day (rollover) to present their costumes for consideration. Late entrants will be disqualified for the previous day's theme, though they may compete for any of the following days!
[*] To the best of our ability, the winners will be posted the following day. However one must appreciate that delays sometimes take place, as we've seen with the very Gathering itself!
[*] Prizes will be meted out once the Gathering has come to an end, with the first place winner of each theme having first pick, followed by the second place winners, etc.
[*] More prizes may be made available over the course of the gathering! After all, no telling when you'll find treasured items tucked away at the bottom of your hoard![/LIST]

Eve had been thrilled when she'd heard of the Masquerade! It meant a chance to try out on the beautifully brown and green skin she rarely wore - what could be more Nature-like than green wings and a brown trunk? She'd bedecked herself with accessories to match, digging out a green mask to hide her face (after all, it was a Masquerade, masks were compulsory, weren't they?) and then goggles to go over them just in case her brilliant blue eyes gave her away.
She wrapped up her tail with long green banana leaves, added a bauble and as a final touch, slipped on a Druidic Armband before making her way to the festivities.
...Unfortunately, in her hurry to join them, Eve failed to notice that she'd worn a Whirlwind Armband instead of a Druidic one. Oops. Hopefully they wouldn't mind that she was wearing Wind apparel instead of Nature because that certainly hadn't been her intention!
(She's also forgotten to inform her mate, Evan, about the Masquerade but maybe he'll turn up on his own some other day and chew her out for not inviting him or even telling him.)
