TOPIC | biskit & show me plush dragons
(before i get into anything, here: show me dragons related to stuffed animals).

i love stuffed animals, and i used to have a TON of them, but i went through a tragic phase when i was younger when i was convinced i needed to get rid of them to 'grow up'. unfortunately i only have a couple ones left, but i've been slowly convincing myself it's okay to buy + love + have stuffed animals even as a 'grownup'. yk. usually i get one as a birthday present for myself (though i didn't do it last year).

this forum thread is about biskit, my border collie stuffed animal - b i s k i t, thank you kindly - i bought when me and my family went skiing last winter. they had a bunch of them, all named after real border collies who worked on the mountain as search and rescue dogs. all the money from the stuffed animals went to the dogs. i loved one of them (another dog named charlotte, bleh name) immediately, and when i hunted around for another name, i found biskit. he's very dear to me because he was a pretty impulsive purchase, and sort of a balm to my inner child.

sometime between a week or a month after i got him, i decided biskit needed a wash. (i have some mild germaphobe tendencies, i'll admit). he'd been travelling with me, and i just wanted him to be clean in my head. so i stuck him in the laundry with my next load. washer and dryer made before 1970 and all. idiotic, i know, but i didn't think anything of it at the time. all the other stuffed animals i've ever owned have never had a problem with being washed like that, even some who had velvet fur. biskit, however, is made out of this very soft, fine fur, almost like real hair. unfortunately i think the dryer did a number on him. he's not super noticeably different, still looks the same, but as soon as i touched him i knew he'd changed. his fur's less soft and more wiry. it has a thinner feel to it, and the texture has been bothering me for a while.

so i did some research, and found out (newsflash) you aren't supposed to wash/dry stuffed animals in an actual washer and dryer, especially if they have soft fur. regretted it immensely and mourned the loss. the problem was there wasn't much i could do to fix biskit's fur. washing him again (even without the dryer) might just make it worse, and no amount of brushing really helped.

long story short, today i finally decided to give him a sort of sponge bath (what i was supposed to do in the first place). he got three rinses, each with a wet washcloth: round one; a mixture of cold water and a little bit of detergent, round two; a different washcloth, this time just cold water to get that detergent out, round three; round two repeated for good measure. he's been patted down now thoroughly, brushed, and is currently drying out for the night. if this doesn't work i'll contemplate sticking him in the washer again without detergent, but we'll see.

send biskit good thoughts!!! i really hope this works i can't express how soft he used to be. i love him very very much, he has the sweetest brown eyes and leather nose, and he fits perfectly into your arms when you hug him sideways. soooooooooooo in honor of biskit, show me plush dragons! any kind of dragon that has some kind of connection to stuffed animals - is a stuffed animal, has a stuffed animal collection, etc. - send 'em my way.
