I loved this movie! There's stuff they didn't wrap up, but I'm already hyped for the next one in 2025! Apparently they were originally one movie but had to be cut in half to fit runtimes.
Feel free to use this thread to show off your Avatar fandragons, or discuss the movie or franchise or your OCs. I'm happy to talk about it anytime!

The Metkayina Na'vi live in the reefs of Pandora, making their villages in the roots of the mangrove forests. They are a peaceful people and prefer to stay out of conflict.
They weave their entire villages! Every generation maintains them to sustain their home, where they have immediate access to the water at all times. The patterns in these weavings often mimic waves and the motion of the waters. They're also flexible, and designed to distribute weight in a safe way for the roots of the giant mangrove trees.

Their connection to Eywa is through the Spirit Tree located in the Cove of the Ancestors. It displays the same arcs of rock that the home of the Tree of Souls in the forest does; in both cases it's due to the deposits of the superconductive material "unobtanium" underneath. The Spirit Tree itself is fully submerged underwater, and its wide "leaves" contract and spread with the tides to keep themselves out of the air.

The Metkayina and other reef Na'vi have a close relationship with a second sapient species on Pandora - the Tulkun. These large, fully aquatic creatures superficially resemble Earth whales, but are able to communicate with the Na'vi through a hybrid system: sign language from the Na'vi to them, and their whistle-click language from them to the Na'vi. (The sign language is also a fully developed language!) They are migratory and have a system of kinship with the Na'vi where they are considered spirit siblings. Each and every single reef Na'vi has a Tulkun spirit sibling from the moment they are born to after they die.

Similarly to the Omatikayan songcords, the Metkayina preserve their personal life stories through beaded jewelry, although the jewelry is much more tightly sewn in order to avoid losing it in the water! Their adults also receive tattoos that both tell their stories and relate to the adult's role in the clan. For example, the placement of the tattoo signifies where the adult is most active - the Olo'eyktan, Tonowari, sports dense tattooing on his face and chest because he must spend most of his time close to the village to lead and resolve conflict. A deep ocean hunter, on the other hand, would have dense tattoos on their arms or legs to signify going beyond the protective reef.

Yes, show me your Ilus!!!
I gene'd this boy when the Foam and Tide gene came out and quickly renamed him Ilu to fit because he reminded me of one!

So I originally thought the ilu should be like the ikran subspecies, but water:
Ilu prototype
#3033456
And I tried my best to find good Marbled colors that matched the pictures and toys of the ilu, but the issue with Marbled is that it doesn't have very bright complementary colors, and in the blue range, it alternates between blue+different blue and blue+orange or red, but the lines on the ilu were more yellow and much thinner.
After a few days of messing with different Tide + Marbled combinations, I tried other secondary genes and found that Striation has the bright complementary yellow lines I was looking for! But only on Lapis .
Ilu prototype 9
#3046120
(This one has Clown because I thought it looked a bit similar to the ilu patterns, but Tide works great too!)
Ilu design fave 2
#3046397
Trying a few more colors got me Teal Striation, although that doesn't blend as well with as many colors of Clown:
Ilu prototype 10
#3046125
But it works well with Lapis Clown!
Not Found
Lastly I tried some other secondary genes that feature complementary colors:
Ilu prototype 6
#3046078
Caribbean Noxtide! Just, the lines aren't going in the right direction...
But the one thing I forgot to consider was changing the breed of dragon. I think maybe the Mirror looks a bit too harsh to be an ilu, and maybe it should be a Tundra? But I haven't looked at what any of these morphologies look like on Tundras yet.
