The Shadow representatives brought their eggs forward. Spiritus gave a sigh of relief. Now, finally, he'd no longer have [i]that egg[/i] watching his every move. [i]That Egg[/i] hatched into a tiny adult Veilspun dragon. He hovered for a moment, a little unsure of his bearings, and then immediately flew down to the largest dragon near Spiritus. He poked just his head around a spike, staring. "Go AWAY!" the frazzled Skydancer shouted. With a mischievous giggle, the Veilspun fluttered away to hide in the gaggle of dragons. Aoide sighed. There was probably no message from the Shadowbinder anyway. She turned her attention to the other egg, which hatched into a fully grown Mirror, his scales marked with the brilliant colors of the Viridian Labyrinth where he had been found. "Do YOU have a message for us?" The Mirror stared at her for a while. "Nope!" "Thanks anyway." The Ice representatives came forward in a hurry, rushing through the prayer of invocation. Aoide stared in confusion. Both of the eggs were melting at an alarming rate; the Tundras seemed equally confused. As the ice thoroughly melted to reveal the hatchlings, everyone stared. Both hatchlings were amorphous globs. As they watched in surprise, one rose up in the vague shape of a Guardian, looking at Boreas for inspiration. The other looked toward the Tundras and fashioned itself like the male, Cracklefloe. Spiritus' voice could be heard distinctly over the babble of uncertain murmurs. "I [i]told[/i] you girls not to go back to those sketchy alchemists!" As the two Lightning representatives approached the plateau, the egg in Bitbyte's claws continued to [i]shrim[/i] and hum loudly. Suddenly it gave a mighty wriggle and leaped out of her claws. "No!" she yelped, diving after it. It exploded before it touched the ground, revealing a massive...Guardian? It was roughly dragon-shaped, but it had a rather unusual aura around it. Not to mention strange deformations on its skin. "Er...hello?" Aoide addressed the creature. "Do you have any vision from the Stormcatcher to share with us?" The creature stared dumbly at her. With a faint crackle, the other egg hatched to reveal a half-grown Ridgeback. "I have a message," she said. "That thing was not formed by him and he's not sure what it is. But he's very interested in finding out..." Spiritus was having a mild apoplectic fit. Glister and Trophy stood up to present the Light eggs. "This one...may not be a Firstborn. It was the one that was found in a basket of eggs." Aoide raised an eyebrow. "And this one may be blessed by the Lightweaver--or it may not. It was found in the Emperor's Wake during Brightshine Jubilee." "I see." The Light representatives intoned their prayer of invocation. The first egg hatched into a small Fae child. Another Fae came to take care of her, since the Guardian and Imperial pair were not sure how they could. The second egg hatched into a Guardian adult. His body was the color of the sky, and his wings the color of the sun. "A good omen!" the Light representatives cheered. But as he flew down from the platform, flecks of his Third, appearing already, gave them pause. Such dark markings...could it be from the Shade? Or merely a Shadow magic trick? She's got other lovely possibilities as well. Flaunt/Flair are LIFESAVERS! The Nature representatives hurried forward with their eggs; one had a bright pink flower wobbling dangerously from the top; the other was merely beginning to dry and shrivel as the hatchling emerged. "I don't think they're supposed to look like that," Myrdin said, poking his nose at the bright blossom. "The hatchling is supposed to absorb the energy from the plant before it flowers." The shriveled husk began to shrink and peel back, revealing a young Skydancer. He stretched his wings and smiled at his foster mother. "Hello." "Hello," Leafstep replied. "Have you a message from the Gladekeeper for us?" The Skydancer looked grave. "Yes. Something horrible is soon to emerge; an evil of ancient times. All dragons are to beware. She has felt their presences moving once more." Aoide and Boreas looked at each other. "We will prepare to face this evil then." The other egg ripped open with a metallic screech. The Gaoler that emerged was not that unusual-looking. The fact that his body appeared segmented like an insect's was not that unusual. The fact that bright pink flowers appeared all over his body was not unusual. But the fact that each and every flower individually opened and closed continually, like a myriad of eyes, or mouths... "Is [i]that[/i] the horror prophesied?" Boreas hissed. The Skydancer looked at him with sad eyes. "No." "Clawrice! Marquise! Livewire! If I ever get my claws on you..." Spiritus' voice echoed down the side of the cliffs as he chased the trio away from the gathering.
