TOPIC | XYZ Rainbow Connection (Planning thread)
@win thanks for pinging me *blushy face

Discussion:
1) What should we name our Rainbow association group?
supercalafragalisticexpialadoshus rainbow dragons

2) What kind of benefits will every member have through affiliation?
badges and getting pinged to see al those rainbow prettys

3) What kind of roles do you think we need? We need things like: pretty graphic designer, general group co-ordinator, event planner etc.
like a person who helps you with all your stuff *wink wink

4) Is there a role you would like to nominate yourself for to help out?
like someone who can help breed i am lightning and i can help you with stuff and ping more people

5) If we were to make an official thread for us, how should we divide the thread and what should we put in it?
1-4 1 being the best
1.gas breeders ( you know what gass looks like (basic pair)
2. rainbow breeders(DG pair)
3.awesome breeders(TG pair)
4.supercalafragalisticexpialadoshus breeders(wc imp coatl TG pairs)
6) What kind of events would you like to see the rainbow group do? For example, setting up a raffle/give away to raise interest among people for rainbow dragons?
beauty padgents yaaaaas
7) What else do you think we should mention while we discuss?

rainbow goodness

@Zwi

I've always considered rainbows as having three distinct colors. At the very least x/y/z and the best I've always seen have colors in three distinct ranges, though that's not always necessary. I have some bright neon dragons who have two colors in the same range and I don't consider them rainbows but I do consider them eyeburners.

Also I've seen some very pretty pastel or dilute rainbows that aren't eyeburners.

@Revision - Thanks! It looks like there might be some back and forth here then between folks on where lines are drawn for what's included and what's not. Pastel "rainbows", no pastel "rainbows". Two-color bright dragons vs. three-color bright dragons. Would two bright colors and one mono be included or disqualified. Etc. For illustrative purposes, here's some examples of types of dragons we might want to decide if are included or excluded: This is a "rainbow" pastel. (Edit: Dark pastel, I admit.) Yes or no? Would it be considered 2 color or 3 color? I don't actually care what people decide. :) --------- My personal opinion is no to pastels, even if they are "rainbow", because that's a whole line of breeding entirely separate from the brights and I'll often see lairs entirely full of pastels, just like I'll see lairs totally full of brights. The rest could be argued either way.

Here's a bright dragon that's not a rainbow as it's double leaf:

As I said, my personal belief is x/y/z in different ranges is a rainbow. However it may not be what we choose to focus on. Like I said in my post where I introduced myself, we ARE going to have to set our standards and what we focus on but that will take a lot of discussion.

I don't think a leaf/leaf/magenta is a rainbow but someone else might. The problem with the term is it is used so many different ways (especially in the dragons wanted forum) that it gets confusing. I've seen people selling triple obsidians as a rainbow dragon, too, so.

Honestly, we're all going to have our personal definitions but that doesn't matter as much as setting breed standards if we are going that route. Now, that said. We could have separate breeds.

Bright Rainbows might just be a different breed than Pastel Rainbows. Which might be a different breed from, say, supernumerary rainbows that have two colors in one range and another in a second range.

And within "breeds" you might have even more definition, like CMYKs and Tropicals under brights. Though anything more than two lairs would get confusing as all get out, so it just depends.

Sorry for not addressing individual dragons, but hopefully with what I wrote you can see why I'm hesitant to define anything as just one person.

@Revision - Yep, pretty much agree with you. I'm flexible too but eventually folks in this league/hub/club will have to decide what to call what so there's less confusion, as you point out.

An alternative, of course, would be to closely ally with any pastel or general x/y/z guild that pops up and focus purely on intense or semi-intense colors, but even then we need to differentiate between rainbows and eyeburners somehow. Squares and rectangles and all that.

@JinxFlux Most of us here are a part of the league, but sadly it is not up-to-date... so we want to start this for hatcheries especially and something more active xD

The thought crosses my mind that we could set a breed standard for each type of rainbow found in nature (excluding twin rainbows because I have no idea how to pull that off except in rare tundra weirdness).

Normal Rainbow

Bright colors in x/y/z or in shifting irishim that mimics the appearance of many colors.

Moonbow

Dilute version of the above.

Supernumerary

Supernumerary rainbows have repeating bands of color, so this could be an XXY or XYX or an XYZ with two colors in the same range.

Monochrome

Three colors in the same range but far enough to give the illusion of a rainbow.

That, however, is not even so much a suggestion as a starting point for talking. (Can you tell I used to live somewhere with a ton of rainbows? We even had two in our courtyard last summer.)

At one point I had a huge definition list written up that I was going to post but I think it is too broad for something like this.

My suggestion is to create an actual directory within the association's thread. And similar to @Revision 's idea, we create groups of different kinds of rainbow/bright dragons. And we list hatcheries according to the kinds of dragons that they breed, so people can look for the kind of dragon they want.

Here's one possible criteria to think about when determining what's a rainbow dragon and what's not which is considering the colours of rainbow (can include pink, but no white, black or brown etc)

Let me also point out that we are thinking of these things while thinking of rainbow. At the same time, we should keep groups simple, straight forward and easy to understand. Such as:
-Pastels (less pigmented colours - example: jade, aqua)
-Neon (higher pigmentation of colour - example: red, blue)
- Hybrid (mix of both pastel and neon)

@rayn

I'd be perfectly fine with those. Do we know what the official boundaries of each color range are or should we set some just so we know where to start? From there we can define which bits in each range are acceptable.
