42192-5.png ... The Brightbeast looks up from her perch - a cushion atop a messy desk at the fore of a hall jam-packed with countless books and scrolls - with a curious gaze. She steps forward, claws clicking on the wood as she eyes your approach.

"Welcome, strangers, to the archives of Clan Dawngrave!" she chirped cheerily after her moment of silent judgement, sitting back on her haunches and spreading her front paws wide. "Our archivist and clan leader, Reva, is currently out on other business - never a moment's rest for him, I swear-" she sounded like a mother worried over their hatchling, rubbing her forepaws together and clicking her beak before she continued, "-but I hope I can assist you in whatever you may need! You may call me Inanna."

910.png CLAN CRUORIS

Perhaps one of the longest-lived alliances of Dawngrave, the relationship with Cruoris has turned somewhat tense recently. Adesh, their leader, is at odds with Reva's leadership. Thinking him incredibly weak in comparison with Marelwyn... Though Adesh is actually thoroughly impressed with Reva's follower's cunning in defeating his old companion (for as unimpressed as he is with Reva).

While the leadership may be at odds with each other, there are still quite a number of dragons that share bonds across the two clans, familial or otherwise. They will likely truly never be genuine enemies.

16266.png

Unyielding Sagittarius CENTAUR
Relations with the centaur have always been amicable, many forming deep bonds with residents of Dawngrave and being integral parts of the community.
Mesacliff Noble HARPY
The harpy are a newer ally from the clan's time in Dragonhome, with a small ragtag flock following them to their new home among the redwood trees.
Spring Glade Lord DRYAD
The dryad have lived in the wood around Dawngrave, before the town was even built, they have always been steadfast allies of the dragons who live there.
Longneck Mender LONGNECK
Though there are no permanent longneck residents in Dawngrave, they are a common sight among merchant caravans and other traveling troupes.
Torrent Tricktail MAREN
The maren that live at the bottom of the cliffs at Dawngrave's edge - despite being somewhat wary - have been nothing but helpful to the growing community.
Luminous Ambassador FAUN
The faun are naturally curious, and all too willing to help in the pursuit and collection of knowledge the clan's archivists crave.

Goldenplains Poodle Mith MITH
Dawngrave has had little interaction with the mith, mostly knowing about them from stories told by other beastclan traders.
Fennec Kitsune KITSUNE
The kitsune are relatively unknown to those in Dawngrave, only seen in a few trading caravans and traveling shows.

Flamescale Spearman SERTHIS
The serthis have been a thorn in the side of Dawngrave for as long as anyone can remember. Formerly a more formidable threat, they're now little more than a nuisance.
Raptorik Herder TALONOK
The talonok are territorial and prone to thievery, making them an annoyance for any dragon living on the outskirts, though they rarely try for anything further.
Fleetflight Manticore MANTICORE
Much like their cousin the sphinx, manticore are fickle. Those in Dawngrave have had more negative experiences than positive in that department.
Summer Sphinx SPHINX
Sphinx are used in stories to keep children behaving, as a mysterious boogeyman that very few have seen - but many are wary of, with good reason.

HISTORY

42192-1.png The Dead Hand started as little more than a roving warband that wandered the Abiding Boneyard; raiding, murdering, and thieving to do what they had to survive. They were so named for the five warlords and chiefs that had banded together. Stronger under one banner than they ever had been on their own. This only lasted a short while, though, before the infighting began.

Eventually, what had been five was reduced to only two - the other's names and faces having since been lost and forgotten. The mated pair of Marelwyn and Reva. A bloodthirsty warmonger and an archivist led oh-so-far astray. The Scarred Wasteland having changed them and taken from them in more ways than any dragon, or each other, could ever dream of...

They needed to move on, and so they did, trekking far from the plagued wastes to the cracked desert scrubland among the canyons and plains of Dragonhome. Long they wandered, until eventually a new home was almost laid at their feet. An ancient ruin of a town, laid out just for them. With some work, maybe it could eventually be a real home.

As they settled, still more joined their ranks, what had once been little more than a small band of pillaging raiders turning into a proper community of near-civilized folk. Craftsdragons, healers, and even a number of beastfolk joined them among the ruins, building up where they could into a bustling little hub among the dust.

There was a darkness at the heart of their home, a creeping shadow in the depths of the canyons and caverns. Those who had lived here before having delved too far beneath, piercing the heart of what the Pillar had kept imprisoned so long... As it crept forth, it dug its tendrils into their leader, twisting him into a vessel of only evil. Shade given form in the husk of what had been Marelwyn.

Through a series of horrible events (chronicled here), the evil was eventually defeated and contained to a small gemstone, which Reva - the last remaining of the original five - keeps under lock and key at all times... and their little village in the dust was abandoned once again, as it should have stayed. They picked up what remained and moved once again, to Reva's childhood home in the Sunbeam Ruins.

42192-3.png Though Marelwyn and the Shade within had been defeated, and many thought all that was left of him had been scrubbed clean, Reva knew better. He knew what that monster had done to him. Soon after their arrival at Dawngrave he bore two sons of Marelwyn's blood - Callis and Rhain - their eyes dark as night and bearing markings that were unmistakably his. Still, Reva hoped that was all they had inherited from him, or that at least whatever darkness they held could be kept in check.

There were few who remained in the small town of Dawngrave from when Reva had lived there in his youth, but they gladly welcomed him back, all too eager to have a leader to follow once again. Though Reva was still not entirely used to that role, he had no lack of assistance. They were learning and growing once again, this time in relative safety and comfort and far from the worries of the world.

No longer were they the Dead Hand, the name of a band of murderers and worse. Such a name had no place among their peace, such a simple little thing. Now they were little more than residents of Dawngrave.
